미 해병대, 괌 ‘캠프 블레이즈’ 기지 재가동…”미일 동맹 증거” > 세계

미 해병대가 어제(26일) 지난 1992년까지 운용됐던 태평양 괌 기지를 30여년 만에 재가동했습니다.
The U.S. Marine Corps restarted its Pacific Guam base yesterday (26th) for the first time in more than 30 years, which operated until 1992.

미 인도태평양사령부는 이날 보도자료에서 이날 다시 가동된 괌의 해병대 기지인 “캠프 블라즈(Camp Blaz)는 70년 만에 처음 새로 건설된 해병대 기지로, 미일 동맹의 증거”라고 밝혔습니다.
The U.S. Indo-Pacific Command said in a press release that day, "Camp Blaz, the first newly built Marine base in 70 years, is evidence of the U.S.-Japan alliance."

이 기지는 미 해병대가 2차 세계대전 직후 건설해 사용하다 지난 1992년 11월 폐쇄했었습니다.
This base was built and used by the U.S. Marine Corps shortly after World War II. It was closed in November 1992.

이후 지난 “2012년 미일 양국 정부 간 상호협정에서 오키나와에서 괌으로 해병대를 이전하는 틀을 마련한 방위정책 검토 구상에 따라 (재가동이) 결정됐다”고 인태사령부는 설명했습니다.
"The decision was made in accordance with the defense policy review plan that laid the framework for the relocation of Marines from Okinawa to Guam in the bilateral agreement between the two governments in 2012," the Intae Command explained.

데이비드 버거 미 해병대사령관은 “지속적인 전진배치는 인도태평양 역내 안보와 안정에 핵심”이라면서 “캠프 블라즈 해병대 기지는 그 것의 중요한 부분이고, 무엇보다도 일본 정부와의 불가분의 관계를 보여준다”고 강조했습니다.
"Sustained forward deployment is key to security and stability in the Indo-Pacific region," said U.S. Marine Corps Commander David Berger. "The Camp Blaz Marine Base is an important part of it, and above all, it shows an inseparable relationship with the Japanese government."

괌 북쪽 고원에 위치한 캠프 블라즈 건설에는 일본 정부의 자금이 일부 투입됐으며, 미국 국방부가 2022년 국방전략 비전을 실험함에 따라 전략적 요충지 역할을 맡게 된다고 인태사령부는 밝혔습니다.
Part of the Japanese government's money has been invested in the construction of Camp Blaz on the northern plateau of Guam, and it will play a strategic role as the U.S. Department of Defense tests its defense strategy vision in 2022.
