미 북한인권특사 “북한으로의 자유로운 정보 유통 중요” > 사회

방한 중인 줄리 터너 미 국무부 북한인권특사는 “지금이야말로 북한 주민이 원하는 정보를 얻을 수 있도록 힘써 도와야 한다”며 북한으로의 자유로운 정보 유통이 중요하다고 밝혔습니다.
Julie Turner, special envoy for North Korean human rights at the U.S. State Department, said, "Now is the time to help North Koreans get the information they want," adding that free distribution of information to North Korea is important.

터너 특사는 오늘(19일) 서울에서 미주 한인단체 ‘원코리아네트워크’와 한미동맹 USA재단이 주최한 제1회 서울프리덤포럼 영상 축사에서 “유엔 북한인권보고서가 발간된 지 10년이 넘었지만 북한 인권 상황은 아직 세계 최악”이라며 이같이 밝혔습니다.
In a video congratulatory speech for the 1st Seoul Freedom Forum hosted by the One Korea Network and the Korea-U.S. Alliance USA Foundation in Seoul today (19th), Turner said, "It has been more than 10 years since the U.N. report on North Korean human rights was published, but the human rights situation in North Korea is still the worst in the world."

터너 특사는 또 해당 보고서 권고는 반드시 이행돼야 한다며 “특히 강제송환 금지 원칙을 중국을 포함한 모든 유엔 회원국이 준수할 것을 촉구한다”고 말했습니다.
Turner also said the report's recommendations must be implemented and "in particular, I urge all UN member states, including China, to comply with the principle of prohibiting forced repatriation."

터너 특사는 이어 “미국은 북한 정부가 주민 권리를 존중하도록 압박을 지속할 것”이라며 “김정은 국무위원장과 북한 정부가 주민들에게 이동의 자유와 표현, 집회, 결사, 종교와 신념의 자유를 허용할 것을 계속 촉구하겠다”고 밝혔습니다.
"The United States will continue to pressure the North Korean government to respect the rights of its people," Turner said. "We will continue to urge Chairman Kim Jong-un and the North Korean government to allow the people to freedom of movement, expression, assembly, association, religion and belief."
