한국의 탈북민 강제북송 비상대책위원회가 엘리자베스 살몬 유엔 북한인권 특별보고관에게 중국에 있다가 북한으로 끌려간 탈북민을 보호할 수 있도록 유엔과 국제사회가 나서 달라고 촉구했습니다.
South Korea's emergency committee on forced repatriation of North Korean defectors has urged the U.N. special rapporteur on North Korean human rights, Elizabeth Salmon, to take steps to protect North Korean defectors who were taken to North Korea while in China.

한국 내 대북인권단체와 강제북송 피해자 가족 등이 결성한 비대위는 오늘(16일) 유엔 북한인권 조사위원회(COI) 보고서 발간 10주년을 계기로 한국을 방문한 살몬 보고관을 어제 만나 지난해 10월 탈북민 600여명의 강제북송 이후 상황을 논의했다며 이같이 밝혔습니다.
The emergency committee, formed by South Korean human rights organizations and families of victims of forced repatriation, said today (16th) that it met with Salmon, the rapporteur who visited South Korea on the occasion of the 10th anniversary of the publication of the U.N. Commission of Inquiry on Human Rights in North Korea, to discuss the situation after some 600 North Korean defectors were forcibly repatriated to the North in October last year.

비대위원장을 맡은 이한별 북한인권증진센터 소장은 “중국 당국이 지금도 탈북민을 체포해 강제북송하고 있다”며 “중국에서 실종되거나 구금된 탈북 여성들 사례를 전하고 이들을 보호할 대책을 국제사회가 마련해야 한다”고 제언했습니다.
Lee Han-byeol, director of the North Korean Human Rights Promotion Center, who chaired the emergency committee, said, "Chinese authorities are still arresting North Korean defectors and forcibly repatriating them. The international community should come up with measures to deliver cases of North Korean women missing or detained in China and protect them."

살몬 보고관은 “북한인권단체와 탈북민들의 의견과 목소리가 탈북민 상황을 개선하고 국제사회에서 북한 인권 문제를 해결해 나가는 데 중요하다”며 다음달 스위스 제네바에서 열리는 유엔 인권이사회 기간에도 북한 인권 증진을 위해 노력하는 시민사회와 함께 협력하겠다”고 말했습니다.
"The opinions and voices of North Korean human rights organizations and North Korean defectors are important in improving the situation of North Korean defectors and solving North Korean human rights issues in the international community," Salmon said. "We will cooperate with civil society to promote North Korean human rights during the UN Human Rights Council in Geneva, Switzerland next month."
