한국이 다음달 초 유엔 인권이사회 제52차 회기에서 채택될 북한 인권결의안에 5년 만에 공동제안국으로 복귀했습니다.
South Korea has returned as a co-proposer for the first time in five years to the North Korean human rights resolution, which will be adopted at the 52nd session of the U.N. Human Rights Council early next month.
임수석 외교부 대변인은 23일 정례브리핑에서 “정부는 인권이사회 북한인권 결의에 공동제안국으로 5년 만에 복귀하고 문안 협의에 적극 참여했다”고 밝혔습니다.
"The government returned to the Human Rights Council's resolution on North Korea's human rights in five years and actively participated in door-to-door consultations," senior Foreign Ministry spokesman Lim said in a regular briefing on the 23rd.
한국은 남북관계의 특수성 등을 들어 2019년부터 지난해까지 4년 연속 인권이사회의 북한인권 결의안 공동제안국에서 빠졌었습니다.
South Korea has been excluded from the Human Rights Council's joint proposal for a resolution on North Korean human rights for four consecutive years from 2019 to last year, citing the specificity of inter-Korean relations.
임 대변인은 공동제안국 복귀 배경에 대해 “자유와 민주주의, 평화 등 보편적인 가치를 중시하는, 그리고 글로벌 중추국가 실현을 목표로 하고 있는 한국의 입장과 기조가 반영된 것”이라며 “앞으로도 북한의 심각한 인권 상황을 개선하기 위한 국제사회 노력에 동참해 나갈 것”이라고 밝혔습니다.
"It reflects South Korea's position and stance that values universal values such as freedom, democracy, and peace and aims to realize a global hub," Lim said. "We will continue to participate in international efforts to improve North Korea's serious human rights situation."
