이달 유엔 안보리 순회 의장국을 맡은 일본이 북한 핵 문제에 대한 국제적 대응에 나설 것이라는 입장을 밝혔습니다. 함께 안보리 비상임이사국으로 활동하게 된 한국과의 협력에 대한 기대감도 나타냈습니다. 안준호 기자가 보도합니다.
Japan, which chaired the UN Security Council tour this month, expressed its position that it would take international action against the North Korean nuclear issue. It also expressed expectations for cooperation with South Korea, which will serve as a non-permanent member of the Security Council. Reporter Ahn Jun-ho reports.

3월 유엔 안전보장이사회 순회 의장국을 맡은 일본의 야마자키 카즈유키 주유엔 일본 대사가 1일 북한의 핵과 미사일 개발에 대해 깊이 우려하고 있다고 밝혔습니다.
Kazuyuki Yamazaki, Japan's ambassador to the U.N., who chaired the U.N. Security Council tour in March, said on the 1st that he was deeply concerned about North Korea's nuclear and missile development.

야마자키 대사는 이날 뉴욕 유엔본부에서 순회 의장국 자격으로 연 기자회견에서 북핵 관련 질의에 “북한 핵 문제의 심각성을 아무리 강조해도 지나치지 않다”며 “북한은 이미 핵실험을 했고, 미사일을 개발하고 있다”고 말했습니다.
At a news conference held at the U.N. headquarters in New York as a circuit chair, Yamazaki said, "We cannot emphasize the seriousness of the North Korean nuclear issue. North Korea has already conducted nuclear tests and is developing missiles."

[녹취: 야마자키 대사] “I cannot over exaggerate the gravity of this issue and already they have conducted, you know, the nuclear experiments and also the North Korea has been developing the missiles. They are refining their technologies. (중략) Almost every month they have been conducting experiments of their ballistic missiles. So putting together all these, you know, phenomena you know, it's only natural for us, for Japan and also the rest of the world to have a very grave concerns. So again, you know, based on that you know position we will deal with any you know international engagement.”

Yamazaki pointed out that North Korea continues to develop nuclear and missile technologies and is conducting ballistic missile launches almost every month.

"When all this is put together, it is natural that we, Japan, and the world, are deeply concerned about it," he said. "Based on this position, we will take international action."

야마자키 대사는 오는 18일 핵 군축과 비확산과 관련한 장관급 회의를 개최할 예정이라고 밝혔습니다.
Yamazaki said he will hold a ministerial meeting on nuclear disarmament and nonproliferation on the 18th.

[녹취: 야마자키 대사] “We believe that conducting discussions towards world without nuclear weapons, with the participation of nuclear weapons states at the Security Council, which holds the primary responsibility for the maintenance of international peace and security, is extremely relevant and meaningful.”
[Recording: Yamazaki Line] "우리는 국제 평화와 안보의 유지에 대한 일차적 책임을 지고 있는 안보리에서 핵무기 보유국들이 참여하는 가운데 핵무기 없는 세계를 향한 논의를 진행하는 것은 매우 관련이 있고 의미가 있다고 생각합니다."

야마카지 대사는 “국제 평화와 안보 유지의 일차적 책임을 지고 있는 안보리에서 핵 무기 보유국들이 참여해 핵 무기 없는 세상을 향한 논의를 하는 것은 매우 적절하고 의미 있는 일”이라고 말했습니다.
"It is very appropriate and meaningful for nuclear weapons states to participate in discussions about a world free of nuclear weapons at the Security Council, which is primarily responsible for maintaining international peace and security," Yamakaji said.

야마자키 대사는 또 북한 핵무기 문제와 관련한 질의에 “역사에서 핵 공격을 받은 유일한 국가로서 일본은 이 문제에 매우 관심이 있다”며 “우리의 궁극적인 목표는 핵무기 없는 세상으로 가는 것이고, 그러기 위해 우리는 항상 국제사회가 이 문제에 대해 생각하도록 독려하고 있다”고 말했습니다.
Asked about North Korea's nuclear weapons issue, Yamazaki also said, "As the only country in history to have been attacked by nuclear weapons, Japan is very interested in the issue. Our ultimate goal is to go to a world free of nuclear weapons, and to do so, we are always encouraging the international community to think about it."

야마자키 대사는 또 오는 13일에는 평화 구축과 분쟁 예방에 관한 공개 토론회를 열 계획이라고 밝혔습니다.
Yamazaki also said he plans to hold a public forum on peacebuilding and conflict prevention on the 13th.

이와 함께 올해 함께 안보리 비상임 이사국으로 활동하게 된 한국과의 협력에 대한 기대감도 나타냈습니다.
At the same time, we expressed our expectations for cooperation with Korea, which will serve as a non-permanent member of the Security Council this year.

야마자키 대사는 관련 질의에 "일본과 한국 정부는 매우 긴밀하게 공조하고 있고, 올해 안보리에도 함께 참여하고 있다"며 "한국 대표단과 함께 일하길 고대하고 있다"고 말했습니다.
"The Japanese and South Korean governments are working very closely together, and they are also participating in this year's Security Council," Ambassador Yamazaki said in a related inquiry. "We are looking forward to working with the Korean delegation."

이어 "양국은 안보리에서 많은 어려운 문제들에 직면해 있고, (북핵 문제에 대해) 매우 깊이 우려하고 있다"고 덧붙였습니다.
"The two countries face many difficult issues at the Security Council, and they are very deeply concerned about the North Korean nuclear issue," he added.

So you know looking forward to working with the Korean delegation and because we face a lot of, you know, difficult issues in the Security Council, both our countries are, you know, really concerned with.”

야마자키 대사는 ‘북한에 대한 결의안 초안 작성 계획 등이 있느냐’는 질문에는 “현재로서는 구체적인 가능한 결의안은 없다”면서도 “더 나은 세상을 만들기 위해 협력할 수 있는 여지가 있다면 그런 노력에 동참하고 싶다”고 말했습니다.
Asked if he had plans to draft a resolution on North Korea, Ambassador Yamazaki said, "There is no specific possible resolution at this time," but added, "If there is room for cooperation to make a better world, I would like to participate in such efforts."
