방한 해리스 미 부통령, 북한 미사일 도발 등 '우려'...DMZ서 "악랄한 독재정권 북한 위협 없는 세계 추구" > 정치

한국을 방문한 카멀라 해리스 미국 부통령은 윤석열 한국 대통령을 만나 북한의 탄도미사일 발사와 핵 무력 정책 법제화에 우려를 표시하면서 미국의 철통같은 방위공약을 재확인했습니다. 해리스 부통령은 또 비무장지대, DMZ을 방문해 악랄한 북한 독재정권의 위협이 없는 세계를 추구한다고 강조했습니다. 서울에서 김환용 기자가 보도합니다.
During his visit to South Korea, U.S. Vice President Kamala Harris met with South Korean President Yoon Suk Yeol and reaffirmed the U.S. ironclad defense commitment, expressing concerns over North Korea's ballistic missile launch and legislation of its nuclear weapons policy. Vice President Harris also visited the DMZ and DMZ, stressing that he seeks a world without the threat of a vicious North Korean dictatorship. Reporter Kim Hwan-yong reports from Seoul.

윤석열 한국 대통령이 하루 일정으로 한국을 방문한 카멀라 해리스 미국 부통령을 29일 서울 용산 대통령실에서 접견했습니다.
Yoon Suk Yeol The South Korean president met with U.S. Vice President Kamala Harris at the presidential office in Yongsan, Seoul, on the 29th, during his one-day visit to South Korea.

현직 미 부통령이 방한한 것은 2018년 평창동계올림픽 당시 마이크 펜스 부통령 이후 4년 6개월 만입니다.
It is the first time in four and a half years that an incumbent U.S. vice president has visited Korea since Vice President Mike Pence at the 2018 PyeongChang Winter Olympics.

85분간 이뤄진 접견에서는 미한 관계 강화 방안을 비롯해 북한 문제, 경제안보, 주요 지역과 국제 현안 등 상호 관심사에 대한 의견 교환이 이뤄졌습니다.
In the 85-minute interview, opinions were exchanged on issues of mutual interest, including ways to strengthen U.S.-South Korea relations, North Korea's issues, economic security, major regional and international issues.

해리스 부통령은 특히 날로 고조되고 있는 북한의 핵 위협에 대한 우려를 표명하고 미국의 한국에 대한 방위공약을 거듭 강조했습니다.
In particular, Harris expressed concern about North Korea's escalating nuclear threat and reiterated Washington's defense commitment to South Korea.

"President Yoon and Vice President Harris expressed serious concern about North Korea's recent ballistic missile launches and legislation of its nuclear weapons policy, and Vice President Harris reaffirmed the U.S.'s iron-fisted defense commitment to South Korea."

이 부대변인은 “양측은 확장억제를 비롯해 연합방위태세 강화를 위해 양국이 긴밀히 협의하는 데 대해 높이 평가했다”며 “북한의 7차 핵실험 시 미한이 공동으로 마련한 대응 조치를 긴밀한 공조 하에 즉각 이행하기로 했다”고 밝혔습니다.
"The two sides highly appreciated the close consultation between the two countries to strengthen their joint defense posture, including to curb expansion," said Lee. "We will immediately implement the countermeasures jointly prepared by South Korea and the U.S. during North Korea's seventh nuclear test."

윤 대통령은 모두발언에서 “미한 동맹은 한반도를 넘어 글로벌 동맹으로 발전하고 있고 군사 동맹에서 경제기술 동맹으로 확대되고 있다”고 강조했습니다.
In his remarks, President Yoon stressed, "The U.S.-China alliance is developing beyond the Korean Peninsula into a global alliance and expanding from a military alliance to an economic and technological alliance."

윤 대통령은 해리스 부통령의 첫 방한을 환영하며 “지난 5월 조 바이든 대통령의 공식 방한 후 4개월 만에 해리스 부통령이 방한한 것은 강력한 미한 동맹에 대한 양국의 굳건한 의지를 반영한 것으로 평가한다”고 말했습니다.
President Yoon welcomed Vice President Harris' first visit to Korea and said, "Harris' visit to Korea four months after President Joe Biden's official visit in May reflects the two countries' strong commitment to a strong U.S.-South Korea alliance."

이어 “지난주 런던과 뉴욕에서 바이든 대통령과 여러 차례 만나 미한 동맹 발전 방향에 대해 공감대를 가졌다”며 “해리스 부통령의 방한이 동맹 발전을 위한 또 다른 전기가 될 것으로 기대한다"고 밝혔습니다.
"I met with President Biden several times last week in London and New York and agreed on the direction of the U.S.-South Korea alliance," he said. "I expect Vice President Harris' visit to Korea will be another turning point for the alliance's development."

해리스 부통령은 “서울에 이렇게 오게 돼 큰 영광”이라며 “남편이 지난 5월 윤 대통령의 취임식에 미국 대표단을 이끌고 참석할 수 있는 영광을 누렸다”고 인사말을 건넸습니다.
Vice President Harris said, "It is a great honor to come to Seoul like this," adding, "My husband enjoyed the honor of leading a U.S. delegation to President Yoon's inauguration in May."

해리스 부통령은 윤 대통령의 뉴욕 순방 중 이른바 ‘비속어 발언 논란’과 관련해 “한국 내 논란에 대해서 미국 측은 전혀 개의치 않고 있다”며 “바이든 대통령은 깊은 신뢰를 갖고 있고, 윤 대통령과의 만남에 대해 만족스럽게 생각한다”고 말했습니다.
Regarding the so-called "controversy over slang remarks" during President Yoon's visit to New York, Vice President Harris said, "The U.S. side doesn't care about the controversy in Korea," adding, "President Biden has deep trust and is satisfied with his meeting with President Yoon."

해리스 부통령은 역내 평화와 안정을 위한 핵심 축으로서 미한 동맹이 더욱 발전해 나가도록 자신도 적극 노력하겠다고 밝혔습니다.
Vice President Harris said he would also make active efforts to further develop the alliance as a key pillar for peace and stability in the region.

For nearly 70 years, Harris said, the alliance has been a key pillar of security and prosperity on the Korean Peninsula, the Indo-Pacific region and around the world. "My purpose here is to strengthen our strength and strengthen our joint efforts."

윤 대통령은 해리스 부통령에게 한국 전기차에 대한 차별 논란이 불거진 미국 인플레이션감축법(IRA)에 대한 우려를 전달하면서 “양국이 미한 자유무역협정, FTA 정신을 바탕으로 상호 만족할 만한 합의 도출을 위해 긴밀히 협력하기를 기대한다”고 말했습니다.
President Yoon conveyed to Vice President Harris his concerns about the U.S. Inflation Reduction Act (IRA), which has sparked controversy over discrimination against Korean electric vehicles, and said, "We expect the two countries to work closely to reach a mutually satisfactory agreement based on the spirit of the U.S.-China free trade agreement and FTA."

이에 해리스 부통령은 자신뿐 아니라 바이든 대통령도 한국 측 우려에 대해 잘 알고 있다면서 “법률 집행 과정에서 한국 측 우려를 해소할 방안이 마련되도록 잘 챙겨보겠다”고 답변했습니다.
In response, Vice President Harris said that not only he but also President Biden are well aware of Korean concerns, adding, "We will take care to resolve Korean concerns in the process of law enforcement."

이밖에 두 사람은 내년 미한 동맹 70주년을 계기로 윤 대통령의 미국 방문 계획에 대한 세부 내용을 외교채널을 통해 협의하기로 했습니다.
In addition, the two agreed to discuss details of President Yoon's plan to visit the U.S. through diplomatic channels on the occasion of the 70th anniversary of the U.S.-South Korea alliance next year.

‘로이터 통신’에 따르면 해리스 부통령은 판문점 군사분계선 앞에서 “전쟁의 위협이 여전하다”면서 “미국과 한국은 어떠한 만일의 사태에도 준비돼 있다”고 말했습니다.
According to Reuters, Vice President Harris said in front of the Panmunjom Military Demarcation Line, "The threat of war remains," adding, "The U.S. and South Korea are ready for any event."

이어 “북한에는 악랄한 독재정권, 불법적인 무기프로그램, 인권 침해가 있다”면서 “미국은 북한의 위협이 없는 세계를 추구한다”고 강조했습니다.
"There are vicious dictatorships, illegal weapons programs, and human rights violations in North Korea," he said. "The U.S. pursues a world without North Korea's threats."

해리스 부통령은 DMZ 방문을 끝으로 방한 일정을 포함한 나흘간 아시아 순방을 마무리 짓고 미국으로 돌아갔습니다.
After a visit to the DMZ, Vice President Harris wrapped up his four-day trip to Asia, including his visit to Korea, and returned to the United States.
