미 하원의원단, 타이완 방문…”미국의 타이완 지지 계속 확신” > 세계

마이크 갤러거 미국 하원 미중전략경쟁특별위원회(중국특위) 위원장은 오는 11월 미국 대통령 선거에서 누가 당선되든 타이완에 대한 미국의 지지는 변화가 없을 것이라고 말했습니다.
Mike Gallagher, chairman of the U.S.-China Strategic Competition Special Committee, said U.S. support for Taiwan would remain unchanged regardless of who wins the U.S. presidential election in November.

미 하원의원 4명과 함께 이날 타이완을 방문한 갤러거 위원장은 타이베이에서 연 기자회견에서 이같이 밝히며, “타이완에 대한 미국의 지지가 커지고 있고 매우 강력한 것을 보고 있다”고 말했습니다.
Gallagher, who visited Taiwan with four U.S. representatives, said at a news conference in Taipei that he saw "U.S. support for Taiwan is growing and very strong."

갤러거 위원장은 이날 차이잉원 타이완 총통과의 회동에서 미국 의원단의 이번 방문은 타이완에 대한 초당적 지지를 보여주기 위한 것이라고 밝혔습니다.
At a meeting with Taiwan President Tsai Ing-wen, Gallagher said the U.S. delegation's visit was aimed at showing bipartisan support for Taiwan.

이어 “오늘날 자유는 권위주의의 침략으로부터 공격받고 있다”면서, 다음 세대에 자유라는 선물을 물려주려면 그 어느 때보다 경계를 강화해야 한다고 말했습니다.
"Today, freedom is under attack from the aggression of authoritarianism," he continued, adding that in order to pass on the gift of freedom to the next generation, we must strengthen our vigilance more than ever.

차이 총통은 미 행정부와 의회가 타이완의 국방력 강화를 계속 지원해준 것에 사의를 표하는 한편 올해 양국 간 더 많은 교류를 기대한다고 말했습니다.
Tsai thanked the U.S. administration and Congress for continuing to support Taiwan in strengthening its defense capabilities, while he said he expected more exchanges between the two countries this year.

한편 마오닝 중국 외교부 대변인은 이날 브리핑에서 미국은 타이완 문제의 복잡성과 민감성을 인식하고 관련 문제를 신중하고 적절히 처리해야 한다고 밝혔습니다.
Meanwhile, Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesman Mao Ning said at a briefing that the U.S. should recognize the complexity and sensitivity of the Taiwan issue and handle the relevant issues carefully and appropriately.
