미일 정상 21일 화상회담 > 세계

조 바이든 미국 대통령과 기시다 후미오 일본 총리가 미국 동부시간으로 오는 21일 화상 정상회담을 가질 예정입니다.
U.S. President Joe Biden and Japanese Prime Minister Fumio Kishida are scheduled to hold a video summit on the 21st eastern time of the U.S.

젠 사키 백악관 대변인은 16일 성명을 내고 “이번 화상 정상회담은 인도 태평양과 전 세계에 걸쳐 평화와 안보, 안정의 주춧돌인 미-일 동맹의 힘에 대해 강조할 것”이라고 밝혔습니다.
White House spokesman Gen. Saki issued a statement on the 16th, saying, "The video summit will emphasize the power of the U.S.-Japan alliance, the cornerstone of peace, security and stability across India, the Pacific and the world."

사키 대변인은 또 바이든 대통령이 기시다 총리와 함께 자유롭고 열린 인도태평양의 공유된 이상을 진전시키고 신종 코로나바이러스 대응과 기후 위기 등 핵심 사안들에 대한 긴밀한 협력을 확대하길 기대하고 있다고 말했습니다.
Saki also said he expects President Biden to advance the shared ideals of the free and open Indian Pacific Ocean with Prime Minister Kishida and expand close cooperation on key issues such as COVID-19 response and climate crisis.

두 정상은 앞서 지난해 10월 전화통화를 가진 뒤 11월 영국에서 개최된 제26차 유엔기후변화협약 당사국총회(COP26)에서 만났습니다.
The two leaders previously had a phone call in October last year and met at the 26th General Assembly of the Parties to the United Nations Climate Change Convention (COP26) held in the United Kingdom in November.

기시다 총리는 당초 이달 중순 일본 국회 회기가 시작되기 직전 미국과 호주 방문을 추진했지만 신종 코로나바이러스의 변이종인 오미크론 확산 상황을 이유로 일정을 취소했습니다.
Prime Minister Kishida initially pushed for a visit to the U.S. and Australia just before the Japanese National Assembly session began in the middle of this month, but canceled the schedule due to the spread of Omikron, a variant of the novel coronavirus.

일본 'NHK' 방송은 오미크론 확산과 미국 내 정치 상황이 맞물려 양측이 화상 방식으로 정상회담을 갖기로 결정한 것으로 보인다고 보도했습니다.
Japan's "NHK" broadcast reported that the two sides seem to have decided to hold a video summit in line with the spread of Omikron and the political situation in the United States.
