파우치 “오미크론 위험성 덜 심각할 수도” > 세계

미국의 최고 보건 당국자가 최근 세계적으로 확산되고 있는 신종 코로나 변이 바이러스 ‘오미크론’이 생각보다 덜 위험할 수 있다고 밝혔습니다.
A top U.S. health official says the new coronavirus "Omicron," which has recently been spreading worldwide, may be less dangerous than expected.

앤서니 파우치 미 국립 알레르기·전염병 연구소장은 5일 CNN 방송에 출연해 오미크론 독성에 대한 초기 분석은 “약간은 고무적”이라고 밝혔습니다.
Anthony Pouch, head of the U.S. National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases, appeared on CNN on the 5th and said the initial analysis of Omicron toxicity was "a little encouraging."

파우치 소장은 오미크론 감염자가 처음 보고된 남아공에서 거의 수직적으로 증가한 사실을 언급하며, 이 변이 바이러스가 강한 전파력을 갖고 있다고 말했습니다.
Referring to the fact that the number of people infected with Omicron has increased almost vertically in South Africa, Pouch said the mutant virus has strong transmission power.

그러면서도 “아직 단정적으로 말하기는 이르지만, 오미크론 변이의 독성이 그렇게 심각한 것으로 보이지는 않는다”고 밝혔습니다.
At the same time, he said, "It's too early to say conclusively, but the toxicity of Omikron mutations does not seem so serious."

파우치 소장은 이어 “델타 변이 바이러스와 견주어 중증을 야기하지 않고 덜 심각하다는 어떤 결론을 내리기 전까지는 신중할 필요가 있다”고 덧붙였습니다.
Director Pouch added, "We need to be cautious until we conclude that delta mutations are less serious than viruses."

한편, 파우치 소장은 오미크론 변이 바이러스 확산 이후 미국 정부가 복수의 아프리카 국가들에서 건너오는 외국인들에 대한 입국제한 조치를 다시 취한 것과 관련해, 특정 시점에서 완화하는 방안을 검토하고 있다고 말 했습니다.
Meanwhile, Pouch said the U.S. government is considering easing the entry restrictions on foreigners from multiple African countries after the spread of the Omikron mutation virus at a certain point in time.
