한국 납북자 가족, 터너 특사에 서한 …“미국 도움 절실” > 사회

한국의 납북자 가족 대표가 줄리 터너 미국 국무부 북한인권특사에게 일본인 납치뿐 아니라 한국의 납치 문제 해결에도 적극 나서달라고 호소하는 편지를 보냈습니다.
South Korea's abductees' families have sent a letter to Julie Turner, the U.S. State Department's special envoy for North Korean human rights, appealing to the U.S. State Department to actively resolve the abduction issue in South Korea as well as the abduction of Japanese citizens.

최성룡 전후납북자피해가족연합회 이사장은 28일 터너 특사가 최근 일본 납북 피해자의 상징인 요코타 메구미(납북 당시 13세)의 고향을 찾아 가족들을 위로한 것을 언급하면서 “메구미의 남편은 고등학생 때 납북된 한국인 김영남”이라며 “한국에는 김영남을 포함해 1970년대 북한 간첩에 납치된 고교생이 5명이나 된다”고 말했습니다.
Choi Sung-ryong, chairman of the Association of Families of Victims of Post-Pyongyang Abductees, said on the 28th, "Megumi's husband is Kim Young-nam, a Korean who was kidnapped when he was a high school student," referring to Turner's recent visit to the hometown of Megumi Yokota, a symbol of Japanese abductees (13-year-old at the time of abductees in North Korea), adding, "In South Korea, there are five high school students kidnapped by North Korean spies in the 1970s, including Kim Young-nam."

이어 “생때같은 자식을 잃은 부모들은 애끊는 심정으로 자식을 그리워하다가 한 많은 생을 마감했거나, 죽기 전에 자식 얼굴 한번이라도 보고 죽겠다고 아직 모질고 질긴 생명줄을 놓지 못하고 있다”고 전했습니다.
"Parents who have lost their children as they were in their childhood have either ended their many lives longing for their children or have yet to let go of a tough and tough lifeline by seeing their children's faces even once before they die," he said.

특히 한국이 윤석열 정부 들어서는 납북자 문제 해결에 적극 나서고 있지만 한국 정부만의 힘으로는 역부족이라면서 자유와 인권을 최우선 가치로 삼는 미국 정부가 적극 나서서 힘없는 납북 피해자들을 도와달라고 호소했습니다.
In particular, the Yoon Suk Yeol government is actively working to resolve the abductees issue, but the U.S. government, which puts freedom and human rights first, appealed for help to helpless victims of abductees, saying that the Korean government alone is not enough.

그러면서 터너 특사가 메구미의 고향을 방문했던 것처럼 두 해 사이에 18명이 납북된 거제도 농소마을을 찾아 어부들의 늙은 아내와 어머니들의 손을 잡아달라고 당부했습니다.
Just as Special Envoy Turner visited Megumi's hometown, he visited the farming village of Geoje Island, where 18 people were kidnapped in two years, and asked them to hold the hands of the fishermen's old wives and mothers.

북한은 납북자의 존재를 부인하며 억류자 생사 확인 등에 일체 응하지 않고 있습니다.
North Korea denies the existence of abductees and has not responded to any confirmation of the detainees' lives.

한국 통일부는 북한이 한국전쟁 중 약 10만 명의 한국민을 납치하고 정전협정 체결 이후에는 3천835명을 납치했으며, 이 가운데 516명이 아직도 북한에 억류돼 있는 것으로 추정하고 있습니다.
South Korea's Ministry of Unification estimates that North Korea kidnapped about 100,000 South Koreans during the Korean War and 3,835 since the signing of the Armistice Agreement, with 516 of them still being held in North Korea.
