한국 “민주주의 정상회의 통해 북한인권 공개 기대” > 사회

한국 정부가 29일 열리는 제2차 민주주의 정상회의를 통해 북한인권 개선의 중요성을 알릴 것이라고 밝혔습니다. 산업화와 민주화를 동시에 이룬 한국의 경험을 공유할 계획입니다. 김영권 기자가 보도합니다.

윤석열 한국 대통령은 28일 주재한 국무회의 모두 발언을 통해 정부의 북한인권 보고서 첫 공개 발간을 밝히면서 다음 날 열리는 민주주의 정상회의 등을 통해 이 문제를 널리 알려야 한다고 강조했습니다.
South Korean President Yoon Suk Yeol said in a statement that the government will publish the North Korean human rights report for the first time in a Cabinet meeting on the 28th, stressing that the issue should be widely known through the next day.

한국 대통령실의 이도운 대변인은 이날 정례 브리핑에서 윤 대통령이 회의에서 거듭 북한인권 문제를 국제사회에 알리는 게 중요하다는 점을 강조했다고 전했습니다.
Lee Do-woon, a spokesman for the South Korean presidential office, said at a regular briefing that President Yoon emphasized the importance of repeatedly informing the international community of North Korean human rights issues.

아울러 윤 대통령은 "통일부가 앞으로 북한 퍼주기는 중단하고 북한에 핵 개발을 추진하는 상황에서는 단돈 1원도 줄 수 없다는 것을 확실히 하라고 지시했다”고 이 대변인은 말했습니다.
In addition, President Yoon ordered the Ministry of Unification to stop giving North Korea away in the future and make sure that it cannot give North Korea a single won if it is pushing for nuclear development, Lee said.

대통령이 직접 북한인권 문제를 국제사회에 적극 알려야 한다고 강조하면서 제2차 민주주의 정상회의에서도 북한 인권 문제가 제기될 가능성이 높아지고 있습니다.

한국은 오는 29~30일 진행되는 제2차 민주주의정상회의에 미국, 코스타리카, 네덜란드, 잠비아와 함께 공동 주최국으로 참여합니다.

특히 윤 대통령은 미국 시각으로 29일 오전 6시(한반도 시각 오후 7시) 개막 직후 열리는 ‘경제성장과 함께하는 번영’이란 주제로 회의를 직접 진행합니다.

한국 외교부는 윤 대통령과 한국 정부가 북한의 민주주의와 인권 문제를 제기할 가능성이 있는지에 대한 VOA의 질의에 즉답 대신 한국 정부의 성장 경험을 공유할 것이라고 밝혔습니다.
South Korea's Foreign Ministry says it will share its growth experience instead of answering VOA's questions about whether Yoon and his government are likely to raise democracy and human rights issues in North Korea.

외교부는 “경제성장과 민주화를 함께 달성한 우리의 경험과 정책을 국제사회와 공유하고 글로벌 중추국가로서 우리의 위상을 한층 더 제고하는 기회가 될 것”이라고 밝혔습니다.
The Ministry of Foreign Affairs said, "It will be an opportunity to share our experiences and policies that have achieved economic growth and democratization together with the international community and further enhance our status as a global hub."

로버트 킹 전 국무부 북한인권특사는 28일 VOA에 한국 정부가 북한인권 개선을 주도하는 것은 매우 유익하다면서 “제네바의 유엔 인권이사회와 뉴욕의 유엔 안보리, 유엔총회에서 계속 문제를 지적하고 지속적으로 문제를 제기하는 것이 가장 중요하다”고 말했습니다.
Robert King, former special envoy for North Korean human rights, told VOA on the 28th that it is very beneficial for the South Korean government to lead the improvement of North Korean human rights.

[녹취: 킹 전 특사] “I think the main thing to do is continue the effort continue pointing the finger continue raising the issues in Geneva, in New York at the Security Council as well as the General Assembly,”

백악관은 앞서 브리핑을 통해 이 회의에 120개 정부와 다른 파트너들이 동참할 예정이며 민주주의와 인권 증진을 위한 새로운 제안도 발표할 예정이라고 밝혔습니다.
The White House said in an earlier briefing that 120 governments and other partners will join the meeting and will also announce new proposals to promote democracy and human rights.
