백악관 고위 관리 “바이든 대통령, 한일 정상 관계 개선 노력 높이 평가” > 정치

조 바이든 미국 대통령이 최근 열린 미한일 정상회담에서 한일 정상의 관계 개선 노력을 높이 평가했다고 백악관 고위 관리가 밝혔습니다. 바이든 대통령의 한일 정상 워싱턴 초청이 가을에 이뤄질 것이라는 점도 시사했습니다. 함지하 기자가 보도합니다.
A senior White House official says U.S. President Joe Biden praised the efforts of the leaders of South Korea and Japan to improve relations at the recent U.S.-Korea summit. It also suggested that President Biden's invitation to Washington, Korea and Japan, will take place in the fall. Reporter Ham Ji-ha reports.

미라 랩-후퍼 백악관 국가안보회의(NSC) 인도·태평양전략국장은 조 바이든 대통령이 주요 7개국(G7) 정상회의 기간 중 한국, 일본 정상 등과 별도로 만나 동맹 강화 노력에 나선 점을 이번 일본 방문의 주요 성과로 꼽았습니다.
Mira Lab-Hooper, director of the National Security Council's India-Pacific Strategy Bureau, cited President Joe Biden's separately meeting with South Korean and Japanese leaders during the G7 summit as a major achievement of his visit to Japan.

랩-후퍼 국장은 23일 바이든 대통령의 최근 일본 히로시마 방문을 주제로 한 디지털 브리핑에서 “G7이 이번 순방에서 중요한 부분을 차지한 건 분명하지만 오늘은 다른 일정에 초점을 맞추고 싶다”며 미일과 미-호주 양자 회담, 미한일 3자 회담 등을 언급했습니다.
In a digital briefing on President Biden's recent visit to Hiroshima, Rapp-Hoofer said, "It's clear that the G7 was an important part of this trip, but I want to focus on a different schedule today," referring to bilateral talks between the U.S. and Japan and the U.S.-Australia and three-way talks.

앞서 바이든 대통령은 G7 기간인 지난 18일 기시다 후미오 일본 총리와 만났으며 20일엔 앤소니 앨버니지 호주 총리와의 회담과 미국, 일본, 인도, 호주의 4자 안보협의체 ‘쿼드’ 정상회의에 참석했습니다.
Earlier, President Biden met with Japanese Prime Minister Fumio Kishida on the 18th, during the G7, and on the 20th, he met with Australian Prime Minister Anthony Albanese, and attended the Quad summit of a four-way security consultative body between the United States, Japan, India and Australia.

또 21일에는 기시다 일본 총리, 윤석열 한국 대통령과 함께 미한일 3자 정상회담을 가졌습니다.
On the 21st, he also held a three-way summit between the U.S. and Japan with Japanese Prime Minister Kishida and South Korean President Yoon Suk Yeol.

랩-후퍼 국장은 18일 열린 미일 정상회담에서 바이든 대통령은 “미일 동맹이 역내 번영과 평화의 초석임을 강조하고 미국의 모든 범주의 역량을 활용한 미국의 확장억제 공약을 재확인했다”고 밝혔습니다.
At the U.S.-Japan summit on the 18th, President Biden stressed that the U.S.-Japan alliance is the cornerstone of regional prosperity and peace and reaffirmed the U.S. commitment to curbing expansion by utilizing the U.S. capabilities of all categories.

"We have committed to continuing to deepen bilateral relations to advance the common vision of a free and open Indo-Pacific," he added.

또한 바이든 대통령은 한일 정상과의 3자 회담에선 “양국(한일) 관계 개선을 위한 기시다 총리와 윤 대통령의 용기 있는 노력을 높이 평가했다”고 랩-후퍼 국장은 설명했습니다.
In addition, President Biden praised Prime Minister Kishida and President Yoon's courageous efforts to improve bilateral relations during the three-way meeting with the leaders of Korea and Japan, Lab-Hooper explained.

"(President Biden) also mentioned that the trilateral partnership and the Indo-Pacific have become stronger due to these bilateral efforts," he said.

한편 랩-후퍼 국장은 바이든 대통령이 윤 대통령과 기시다 총리를 올 가을에 워싱턴으로 초청할 것임을 시사했습니다.
Meanwhile, Rap-Hooper has indicated that President Biden will invite President Yoon and Prime Minister Kishida to Washington this fall.

랩-후퍼 국장은 “우리는 워싱턴에서 매우 바쁜 가을을 보낼 것으로 예상한다”며 “여기에는 물론 바이든 대통령이 한국의 윤 대통령과 일본의 기시다 총리를 3자 정상회담을 위해 워싱턴으로 초청했다는 사실도 포함된다”고 말했습니다.
"We expect to have a very busy autumn in Washington," Rap-Hoofer said. "This includes, of course, the fact that President Biden invited South Korean President Yoon and Japanese Prime Minister Kishida to Washington for a three-way summit."

앞서 백악관은 NSC 대변인은 VOA에 “바이든 대통령은 일본 히로시마에서 열린 기시다 후미오 일본 총리와 윤석열 한국 대통령과의 회담에서 3국 관계를 지속적으로 강화하기 위해 두 지도자를 백악관에서 열리는 공식 회담에 초청했다”고 밝힌 바 있습니다.
"President Biden invited the two leaders to official talks at the White House to continue strengthening trilateral relations during talks between Japanese Prime Minister Fumio Kishida and South Korean President Yoon Suk Yeol in Hiroshima," an NSC spokesman told VOA.

이번 3자 회담은 바이든 행정부 출범 이후 네 번째이자 다자회의 계기가 아닌 별도로 열리는 첫 미한일 정상회담으로 기록될 전망입니다.
The three-way talks are expected to mark the fourth since the inauguration of the Biden administration and the first US-Korea-Japan summit to be held separately, not as an opportunity for multilateral meetings.
