미국 육군 "한국 순환 배치, 가을부터 스트라이커여단전투단(SBCT)으로 전환" > 정치

미국 육군이 올해 가을부터 한국에 순환 배치하는 기갑여단전투단(ABCT)을 스트라이커여단전투단(SBCT)으로 전환한다고 공식 발표했습니다.
The U.S. Army has officially announced that it will convert the Armored Brigade Combat Team (ABCT) to the Striker Brigade Combat Team (SBCT), which will be deployed circulating in Korea from this fall.

육군은 지난달 30일 발표한 성명에서 이같이 밝히고 “이런 전환은 미국이 한반도에서 어떠한 침략 행위에도 신속하게 대응할 능력을 유지하게 할 것”이라고 강조했습니다.
In a statement released on the 30th of last month, the Army said, "This transition will ensure that the United States maintains its ability to respond quickly to any aggression on the Korean Peninsula."

그러면서 “스트라이커여단전투단(SBCT)은 중장갑차 플랫폼을 활용해 폭넓은 도전에 대응할 민첩하고 다기능적 역량을 제공한다”고 설명했습니다.
"Striker Brigade Combat Team (SBCT) provides agile and multifunctional capabilities to respond to a wide range of challenges using the heavy armored vehicle platform," he explained.

아울러 “스트라이커여단전투단(SBCT)은 4천 400명 이상으로 구성된 보병 중심 부대로 선임 지휘관들에게 속도와 효율성, 향상된 기동성, 전략적 유연성을 제공할 것”이라고 밝혔습니다.
"The Striker Brigade Combat Team (SBCT) is an infantry-centric unit of more than 4,400 people that will provide senior commanders with speed and efficiency, improved mobility and strategic flexibility," it said.

다만 M1 에이브럼스 탱크와 M2 브래들리 장갑차 등 기존 기갑여단전투단 장비는 계속 유지해 강력한 방어 역량을 더욱 확보할 것이라고 덧붙였습니다.
However, he added that the existing armoured brigade equipment such as the M1 Abrams Tank and the M2 Bradley Armored Vehicle will continue to secure strong defense capabilities.

미 육군은 이번 스트라이커여단전투단 전환이 미한동맹에 대한 미국의 확고한 의지를 보여주고 방어 역량을 강화할 것이라고 강조했습니다.
The U.S. Army stressed that the transition to the striker brigade will show the U.S. firm commitment to the U.S. alliance and strengthen its defense capabilities.

앞서 미국 하원 군사위원회 준비태세 소위원회는 지난달 9일 의결한 내년 회계연도 국방수권법안 초안에서 미 육군의 이런 전환 계획이 한반도에서 전면전 발발 시 어떤 이점이 있는지 등을 내년 2월 15일까지 하원 군사위에 제출할 것을 육군 장관에게 요구했습니다.
The U.S. House Armed Services Committee's preparatory subcommittee asked the U.S. Secretary of State to submit the U.S. Army's plan to the House Armed Services Committee by Feb. 15 next year, including the benefits of an all-out war on the Korean Peninsula.

그러면서 한반도보다 병력의 준비태세와 신속전개 능력이 더 중요한 곳은 없다며 주한미군은 동맹국들을 안심시키고 공격자들을 억지하는 노력에 필수불가결하기 때문에 이런 변화와 관련된 이점과 단점, 그리고 위험이 더 잘 이해돼야 한다고 강조했습니다.
"There is no place more important than the Korean Peninsula in terms of readiness and rapid deployment," he said, stressing that the U.S. Forces Korea is indispensable for efforts to reassure allies and deter attackers, so the benefits, shortcomings and risks related to these changes should be better understood.
