CIA Director William Burns called North Korea's nuclear and ballistic missile programs a grave threat to the United States.

번스 국장은 22일 미 공영라디오 ‘NPR’과의 인터뷰에서 ‘현재 북한의 위협 순위가 어떻게 되느냐’는 질문에 “여전히 매우 무서운 위협으로 생각한다”며 “오늘날 뉴스 헤드라인이 아닌 사안이 다시 출현할 것”이라고 대답했습니다.
In an interview with the U.S. public radio "NPR" on the 22nd, Burns said, "I still think it's a very scary threat," adding, "There will be a reemergence of issues that are not news headlines today.

이어 “지도부의 성격과 확대되고 있는 역량을 감안할 때 그것에 대해 여러분은 매우 걱정해야 한다”고 말했습니다.
"Given the nature of the leadership and its expanding capabilities, you should be very concerned about it."

그러면서 “우선순위를 살펴볼 때 북한이든 이란이든 혹은 그 어느 곳이든 우리의 시간과 관심, 업무를 차지하게 될 계속되는 많은 도전들을 소홀히 할 수 없다”고 지적했습니다.
He pointed out, "When looking at priorities, we cannot neglect many of the challenges that will occupy our time, interest, and work, whether it is North Korea, Iran or anywhere else."

번스 국장은 ‘북한이 핵과 미사일 프로그램을 지속하고 있다는 점에 의심은 없느냐’는 질문에는 “전혀 의심하지 않는다”면서 북한은 최근 몇 년 동안 미사일과 핵 프로그램을 꾸준히 확장해 왔다고 강조했습니다.
When asked if there is any doubt that North Korea is continuing its nuclear and missile programs, Burns said, "I have no doubt," adding that North Korea has steadily expanded its missile and nuclear programs in recent years.

따라서 이런 명백한 이유들, 특히 미국의 이익뿐 아니라 잠재적으로 미 본토는 물론 가장 가까운 동맹인 한국과 일본에 제기되는 위협에 CIA가 매우 집중하고 있다고 밝혔습니다.
