조 바이든 미국 대통령이 18일, 시진핑 중국 국가주석과 조만간 대화할 것이며, 현재 중국에 대한 관세 문제를 검토 중이라고 밝혔습니다.
U.S. President Joe Biden said on the 18th that he will talk to Chinese President Xi Jinping soon and is currently considering tariffs on China.

바이든 대통령은 이날, 개인 별장이 있는 델라웨어주 르호보스 비치에서 시진핑 주석과 대화할 것이냐는 기자들의 질문을 받자 “곧(soon)”이라고 짧게 대답했습니다.
When asked by reporters whether he would talk to President Xi Jinping at Le Hobos Beach, Delaware, where his private villa is located, President Biden briefly replied, "soon."

지난해 1월 취임한 바이든 대통령은 시 주석과 지금까지 4차례 화상 또는 전화 통화로 접촉했지만 아직 대면 회담은 하지 않았습니다.
President Biden, who took office in January last year, has contacted President Xi four times so far by video or phone, but has yet to hold face-to-face talks.

바이든 대통령은 또 이날, 중국산 상품에 대한 고율의 관세와 관련해 지금 결정하는 과정에 있다고 말했습니다.
Mr. Biden also said he is now in the process of deciding on high tariffs on Chinese goods.

전임 도널드 트럼프 행정부는 중국의 무역 관행이 불공정하다는 이유로, 2천200여 개의 중국산 제품에 고율의 관세를 부과했다가 2020년 초 549개로 줄인 바 있습니다.
The former Donald Trump administration imposed high tariffs on 2,200 Chinese products because China's trade practices were unfair, but reduced them to 549 in early 2020.

바이든 행정부는 지난 3월, 이 가운데 352개에 대해 관세 부과 예외를 올 연말까지 한시적으로 허용했습니다.
In March, the Biden administration allowed 352 of these exemptions from tariffs to the end of the year.

일각에서는 미국이 40년 만에 최악의 인플레이션을 겪고 있고, 바이든 대통령의 지지율이 하락함에 따라 대중국 관세를 대폭 인하 또는 면제해 물가 안정을 모색할 것이라는 관측이 나오고 있습니다.
Some predict that the U.S. is experiencing the worst inflation in 40 years and that as President Biden's approval rating falls, it will seek to stabilize prices by drastically cutting or exempting tariffs on China.
