미 대북 보건 전문가 "대북 전단 코로나 감염 주장은 궤변...책임 전가, 정보 차단 의도" > 사회

북한 당국이 연일 신종 코로나바이러스가 대북 전단과 물품 등을 통해 처음 유입됐다고 주장하고 있지만, 국제사회에서는 과학적 근거가 없는 터무니 없는 궤변이란 평가가 이어지고 있습니다.
North Korean authorities claim that the new coronavirus first flowed in through leaflets and goods, but the international community continues to evaluate it as an absurd sophistry without scientific evidence.

과거 북중 접경지역에서 북한의 보건 시스템을 장기간 연구했었던 미국 존스홉킨스대 공중보건대학의 길버트 번햄 교수는 1일 VOA에, “한국에서 보내는 풍선을 통한 전단이나 다른 물품을 통해 코로나바이러스가 확산할 가능성은 거의 전무하다”고 말했습니다.
Professor Gilbert Burnham of the Johns Hopkins University School of Public Health, who studied North Korea's health system at the border with China for a long time, told VOA on the 1st, "There is little possibility of the spread of the coronavirus through balloons or other goods from Korea."

번햄 교수는 이는 신종 코로나바이러스가 확산하는 감염 경로가 아니라며, “코로나바이러스는 의심의 여지 없이 인간 대 인간의 호흡기를 통해 북한에 유입됐으며 계속 확산하고 있다”고 지적했습니다.
Professor Burnham said this is not an infection route for the spread of the new coronavirus, and pointed out that "COVID-19 has undoubtedly entered North Korea through human-to-human respiratory systems and continues to spread."

번햄 교수는 그러면서 국경을 100% 봉쇄하는 것은 불가능하기 때문에 바이러스 유입은 단지 시간문제였다며, 일단 유입되면 북한의 열악한 보건 상황 때문에 비참하게도 대응이 사실상 불가능하다고 말했습니다.
Professor Burnham said that it was only a matter of time before the virus flowed in because it was impossible to block the border 100 percent, and that once it flowed in, it was virtually impossible to respond miserably due to North Korea's poor health conditions.

“제한된 검사와 공중 보건 데이터의 억제는 국가적으로 감염의 전체 범위를 파악하는 것조차 불가능하다는 것을 의미하기 때문에 외부에서는 북한 주민들에게 무슨 일이 일어나고 있는지 단지 추측만 할 수 있다”는 설명입니다.
"Because limited testing and suppression of public health data mean that it is impossible to even grasp the full extent of the infection nationwide, we can only guess what is happening to the North Koreans from the outside."

번햄 교수는 “코로나가 대북 전단을 통해 유입됐다는 북한 당국의 비난은 전염병의 책임을 외부로 떠넘기는 동시에 모든 외부 정보로부터 주민들의 접근을 더욱 단절시키려는 의도로 보인다”고 진단했습니다.
Professor Burnham said, "The North Korean authorities' accusation that COVID-19 flowed through leaflets seems to be intended to further cut off residents' access from all external information while shifting the responsibility of the epidemic to the outside world."

북한 당국은 1일 관영 매체들을 통해 신종 코로나바이러스의 최초 유입 경로가 한국에서 유포한 대북전단과 물품이라고 주장한 데 이어 2일에도 ‘조선중앙통신’을 통해 “바람을 비롯한 기상현상에 의해 날려온 색다른 물건”을 거듭 언급하며 남측에 책임을 계속 전가하고 있습니다.
The North Korean authorities claimed through state media on the 1st that the first route of the new coronavirus was leaflets and goods circulated in South Korea, and repeatedly mentioned "different goods blown away by wind and other weather phenomena" on the 2nd.

하지만 마틴 맥키 런던위생열대의학대학교 교수 등 여러 국제 보건 전문가는 1일 VOA에, 북한 정권의 주장은 과학적 근거가 없는 터무니 없는 주장이라며 순전히 정치적 선전에 불과하다고 일축했습니다.
However, several international health experts, including Martin McKee, a professor at London's College of Hygiene and Tropical Medicine, told VOA on the 1st that the North Korean regime's claim is a ridiculous claim without scientific grounds and dismissed it as mere political propaganda.

한국 통일부도 이날 북한 정부의 주장에 대해 “물체 표면에 남아있는 바이러스를 통한 감염은 사실상 불가능하다는 것이 질병관리청 등 국제기관과 전문가, 세계보건기구(WHO) 등 국제기구들의 공통 견해"라고 반박했습니다.
South Korea's Unification Ministry also refuted the North Korean government's claim, saying, "It is the common view of international institutions such as the Korea Centers for Disease Control and Prevention and the World Health Organization (WHO) that infection through viruses remaining on the surface is virtually impossible."
