미 국무 차관보 “북한 등 적국, 미국 첨단기술 획득 추구” > 정치

북한 등 적국들이 미국 첨단 기술 획득을 시도하고 있다고 미국 국무부 정치군사 담당 차관보가 밝혔습니다. 미국, 영국, 호주의 외교안보 3자 협의체인 오커스가 향후 한국과 협력할 방법을 모색할 것이라고 밝혔습니다. 이조은 기자입니다.
The U.S. Undersecretary of State for Political and Military Affairs says North Korea and other adversaries are trying to acquire high-tech U.S. technologies. The three-way diplomatic and security consultative body of the United States, Britain and Australia says it will seek ways to cooperate with South Korea in the future. This is reporter Lee Jo-eun.

제시카 루이스 국무부 정치군사 담당 차관보는 24일 “수년간 우리는 전략적 경쟁국인 중국과 러시아, 나아가 북한과 이란 등이 우리의 첨단 군사 및 민간 기술을 획득하고 악용하려 한다는 광범위한 증거를 봤다”고 밝혔습니다.
Jessica Lewis, Deputy Secretary of State for Political and Military Affairs, said on the 24th, "Over the years, we have seen extensive evidence that strategic competitors such as China, Russia, and even North Korea and Iran are trying to acquire and exploit our advanced military and civilian technologies."

루이스 차관보는 이날 하원 군사위원회가 미국의 무기 수출 현대화와 미국, 영국, 호주의 외교안보 3자 협의체인 오커스를 주제로 개최한 청문회에 출석해 이같이 말했습니다.
Lewis made the remarks at a hearing held by the House Armed Services Committee on the subject of modernizing U.S. arms exports and Oakers, a trilateral consultative body on foreign affairs and security between the U.S., Britain and Australia.

루이스 차관보는 이날 청문회에 제출한 서면보고를 통해서도 이런 점을 언급하며 “북한, 이란과 연결된 행위자들의 사이버 간첩 행위가 증가하는 것도 봤다”고 지적했습니다.
In a written report submitted to the hearing, Lewis also noted that "we also saw an increase in cyber espionage by actors connected to North Korea and Iran."

오커스 협력과 관련해 쿼드 참여국인 일본과 인도는 물론 한국의 역할이 증대될 것으로 보느냐는 질문에는 “지금 우리는 오커스를 제대로 하는 데 매우 집중하고 있고 그것이 바로 우리가 지금 하는 일의 초점이라고 생각한다”면서도 “향후 다른 동맹 및 파트너 국가들과 더 협력할 방법을 모색할 것”이라고 답했습니다.
When asked if he thought Korea's role as well as Japan and India, the quad-participants, would increase in Ocus cooperation, he said, "We are very focused on getting Ocus right now, and I think that's the focus of what we're doing now."

"Our alliances and partnerships have been and will continue to play a key role in contributing to peace and prosperity in the Indo-Pacific region over the past 70 years," Lewis said.

He then stressed that "Occus represents the historical modernization of this long-standing relationship, allowing our three countries (the United States, the United Kingdom, and Australia) to work together in an unprecedented way."
