리시 상원의원 “북러 무기거래, 예상됐던 일…바이든 행정부 적극 대처해야” > 정치

북한과 러시아 사이의 무기 거래는 예상됐던 일이라고 미 공화당 중진 상원의원이 말했습니다. 우크라이나 전쟁이 세계적인 문제라는 점을 잊어서는 안된다는 지적입니다. 이조은 기자가 보도합니다.

미 공화당의 제임스 리시 상원의원은 바이든 행정부가 북러 무기 거래 같은 불법 거래에 적극 대처할 것을 주문했습니다.
U.S. Republican Senator James Rish called for the Biden administration to actively deal with illegal trade, such as the arms trade between North Korea and Russia.

[리시 의원] “It should come as no surprise that like-minded authoritarian regimes will support each other and their brutality. North Korea doing business with Russian proxies like the Wagner group is expected. I encourage the Biden Administration to prioritize efforts to counter the malign networks that facilitate these types of illicit transactions and to take full advantage of the tools available under Treasury’s recent designation of Wagner as a transnational criminal organization. The war in Ukraine is a global issue and we should all remember this.”
[Rep. Lizzy] "같은 생각을 가진 권위주의 정권이 서로와 그들의 잔인함을 지지한다는 것은 놀랄 일이 아닙니다. 북한은 바그너 그룹과 같은 러시아 대리인들과 사업을 할 것으로 예상됩니다. 저는 바이든 행정부가 이러한 유형의 불법 거래를 촉진하는 악성 네트워크에 대응하기 위한 노력을 우선시하고 재무부가 최근 바그너를 초국가 범죄 조직으로 지정하면서 이용할 수 있는 도구를 최대한 활용할 것을 권장합니다. 우크라이나 전쟁은 세계적인 문제이며 우리 모두는 이것을 기억해야 합니다."

리시 의원은 북한이 러시아 바그너 그룹에 무기를 전달하는 정황이 포착된 위성사진을 백악관이 최근 공개한 것과 관련해 25일 VOA에 “같은 생각을 가진 독재 정권들이 서로와 그들의 잔혹성을 지원할 것이라는 점은 결코 놀랄 일이 아니다”라고 말했습니다.
"It's no surprise that like-minded dictatorships will support each other and their brutality," Rishi told VOA on the 25th, referring to the White House's recent release of satellite images showing North Korea delivering weapons to Russia's Wagner group.

이어 “북한이 바그너 그룹과 같이 러시아를 대리하는 자들과 거래하는 것은 예상되는 일”이라고 덧붙였습니다.
He added, "It is expected that North Korea will deal with people who represent Russia, such as Wagner Group."

리시 의원은 “바이든 행정부가 이런 유형의 불법 거래를 촉진하는 악성 네트워크에 대응하기 위한 노력을 우선시하고, 최근 재무부가 바그너 그룹을 초국가적 범죄 조직으로 지정함에 따라 가용해진 수단을 최대한 활용할 것을 독려한다”고 밝혔습니다.
"We encourage the Biden administration to prioritize its efforts to counter malicious networks that promote this type of illegal trade, and to make the most of the means available as the Treasury recently designated Wagner Group as a transnational criminal organization," Rishi said.

상원 외교위원회 공화당 간사인 리시 의원은 “우크라이나 전쟁은 세계적인 문제”라며 “우리는 모두 이것을 기억해야 한다”고 강조했습니다.
"The war in Ukraine is a global issue," said Rep. Rishi, Republican secretary of the Senate Foreign Relations Committee. "We must all remember this."

앞서 백악관은 지난 20일 북한이 러시아 민간 용병회사 바그너 그룹에 무기를 전달하는 정황을 포착한 위성사진을 공개했습니다.
Earlier on the 20th, the White House released satellite images that captured North Korea's delivery of weapons to Russian private mercenary company Wagner Group.

존 커비 백악관 국가안보회의(NSC) 전략소통조정관은 이날 브리핑에서 "최근 몇 주 동안 우리는 북한 관리들이 바그너에게 무기를 제공했다는 사실을 거짓으로 부인하는 것을 봤다"며 “그러나 우리가 공개적으로 말했듯이 북한은 작년 말 바그너가 사용할 보병 로켓과 미사일을 러시아에 전달했다"고 지적했습니다.
"In recent weeks, we have seen North Korean officials falsely deny that they provided Wagner with weapons," National Security Council Strategic Communication Coordinator John Kirby said in a briefing. "But as we said publicly, North Korea delivered infantry rockets and missiles to Russia for Wagner's use late last year."

백악관은 지난해 12월 22일 북한이 바그너 그룹이 사용할 1차 무기 인도를 완료했으며 바그너 그룹 측이 북한에 무기 대금을 지불했다고 밝혔지만, 북한과 바그너 측은 모두 사실이 아니라며 부인해 왔습니다.
The White House said on December 22 last year that North Korea completed the first arms delivery for use by the Wagner Group and that the Wagner Group paid for the weapons to North Korea, but both North Korea and Wagner have denied it.

이런 가운데 미 재무부는 26일 바그너 그룹이 우크라이나에서 계속되는 심각한 범죄 행위에 관여하고 있다며 바그너 그룹에 대한 제재를 단행했습니다.
Meanwhile, the U.S. Treasury Department imposed sanctions on the Wagner Group on the 26th, saying it was involved in continuing serious criminal activities in Ukraine.
