싱가포르 “북한 도발, 역내 평화와 안정 위협”…스웨덴 “국제 의무 준수해야” > 정치

국제사회에서 북한 문제의 중재자 역할을 해왔던 싱가포르와 스웨덴이 북한의 최근 대륙간탄도미사일(ICBM) 발사를 비판했습니다. 싱가포르는 북한의 도발이 역내 평화와 안정을 위협한다고 지적했고, 스웨덴은 북한이 국제 의무를 준수할 것을 촉구했습니다. 조상진 기자가 보도합니다.
Singapore and Sweden, which have served as mediators for the North Korean issue in the international community, criticized North Korea's recent launch of an intercontinental ballistic missile (ICBM). Singapore pointed out that North Korea's provocations threaten peace and stability in the region, and Sweden urged North Korea to comply with international obligations. 지난 2018년 미북 정상회담을 주최했던 싱가포르 정부가 북한의 지난 18일 대륙간탄도미사일(ICBM) 발사를 강력히 규탄했습니다.
The Singaporean government, which hosted the 2018 U.S.-North Korea summit, strongly condemned North Korea's launch of an intercontinental ballistic missile (ICBM) on the 18th.

Singapore reiterates our longstanding call on the DPRK to cease all provocations immediately and abide by its international obligations and commitments.”

아울러 “그것은 또한 유엔 안보리 결의에도 위배된다”고 덧붙였습니다.

북한은 앞서 현지시간으로 17일 최선희 외무상 명의로 미한일 확장억제 강화에 반발해 ‘군사적 대응이 더욱 맹렬해 질 것’이라고 위협하는 담화를 발표한 직후 단거리 탄도미사일을 발사했으며, 다음 날인 18일에는 ICBM 1발을 쏘는 도발을 감행했습니다.
North Korea launched a short-range ballistic missile on the 17th in the name of Foreign Minister Choi Sun-hee, shortly after announcing a statement threatening "military response will become fiercer" in protest against the U.S.-Japan expansion deterrence, and launched a provocation on the 18th, the next day.

북유럽국가 스웨덴 정부도 21일 VOA에 북한의 지난 18일 ICBM 발사를 비판하고 한반도 문제의 평화적 해결의 중요성을 강조했습니다.

스웨덴 외무부 대변인실은 “유엔 안전보장이사회는 앞서 북한의 핵무기와 미사일 프로그램이 국제 평화와 안보에 위협이 된다고 선언한 바 있다”고 지적했습니다.
"The UN Security Council has previously declared that North Korea's nuclear weapons and missile programs pose a threat to international peace and security," the Swedish Foreign Ministry spokesman said.

그러면서 “우리는 북한이 국제적 약속을 이행하고 유엔 안보리 결의에 따라 핵무기와 미사일 프로그램의 완전하고 검증 가능하며 불가역적인 폐기에 착수할 것을 촉구한다”고 말했습니다.
"We urge North Korea to fulfill its international commitments and to embark on a complete, verifiable and irreversible dismantlement of its nuclear weapons and missile programs in accordance with U.N. Security Council resolutions," he said.

아울러 “스웨덴은 한반도 상황의 평화적 해결을 위해 장기적인 노력을 기울이고 있으며, 대화와 신뢰 구축 과정을 지속적으로 지원하고 있다”고 덧붙였습니다.
He added, "Sweden is making long-term efforts to resolve the situation on the Korean Peninsula peacefully and continues to support the process of dialogue and trust building."

스웨덴은 지난 1973년 북한과 외교관계를 수립한 뒤 1975년 서방국가 중 처음으로 평양에 대사관을 설치한 나라입니다.
Sweden was the first Western country to establish an embassy in Pyongyang in 1975 after establishing diplomatic relations with North Korea in 1973.

특히 북한과의 소통 채널을 꾸준히 유지하면서 오랜 기간 미북 대화 진전을 위한 중재자 역할을 해왔으며, 지난 2019년 10월에는 수도 스톡홀름에서 열린 미북 실무협상을 중재한 바 있습니다.
In particular, he has long served as a mediator for the progress of U.S.-North Korea dialogue while maintaining a steady communication channel with North Korea, and in October 2019, he mediated working-level negotiations between the U.S. and North Korea in Stockholm, the capital.

한편 스웨덴 외무부는 국제 다자 기구 참여를 통해 한반도를 포함한 인도태평양 지역과의 협력과 관여를 넓혀 나갈 뜻을 밝혔습니다.
Meanwhile, Sweden's Foreign Ministry has expressed its intention to expand cooperation and engagement with the Indo-Pacific region, including the Korean Peninsula, through the participation of international multilateral organizations.

We share many challenges, including promoting free and fair trade, the rules based international order and open sea lines of communication. Our support for increased EU engagement in line with the EU:s Indo-Pacific strategy is a reflection of this. As a NATO invitee, Sweden supports the ambition as laid out in the Strategic concept for NATO to strengthen dialogue and cooperation with new and existing partners in the Indo-Pacific to tackle cross-regional challenges and shared security interests.”

스웨덴 외무부 대변인실은 ‘스웨덴이 북대서양조약기구(NATO·나토) 가입을 추진하고 있는 상황에서 한반도 등 인도태평양 역내 문제에 어떤 관여 노력을 기울이고 있느냐’는 VOA의 질문에 “인도태평양은 특히 이 지역과의 광범위한 무역관계를 고려할 때 스웨덴에게 중요하다”고 말했습니다.
When asked by VOA what kind of involvement Sweden is making in issues in the Indo-Pacific region, including the Korean Peninsula, the Swedish Foreign Ministry's office said, "The Indo-Pacific is important for Sweden, especially considering its broad trade relations with the region."

이어 “우리는 자유롭고 공정한 무역과 규칙에 기반한 국제 질서, 열린 해상 교통로 촉진을 포함한 많은 도전 과제를 공유하고 있다”면서 “우리가 유럽연합(EU)의 인도태평양 전략에 따라 EU 관여 확대를 지원하는 것은 이를 반영하는 것”이라고 설명했습니다.
"We share many challenges, including free and fair trade, an international order based on rules, and promotion of open maritime traffic routes," he said. "Our support for EU involvement in accordance with the EU's Indo-Pacific strategy reflects this."

그러면서 “나토 초청국으로서 스웨덴은 인도태평양 지역의 신규 및 기존 파트너들과 대화와 협력을 강화해 지역 간 도전과 공동 안보 이익을 해결하겠다는 나토의 전략 개념에 명시된 포부를 지지한다”고 강조했습니다.
"As a NATO guest, Sweden supports NATO's stated commitment to address regional challenges and common security interests by strengthening dialogue and cooperation with new and existing partners in the Indo-Pacific region," he stressed.
