미국과 일본, 호주 국방장관들이 다음달 2일 미국 하와이에서 회담한다고 하마다 야스카즈 일본 방위상이 밝혔습니다.
Japanese Defense Minister Yasukazu Hamada says defense ministers from the United States, Japan and Australia will meet in Hawaii on the 2nd of next month.
하마다 방위상은 30일 기자회견에서 이날부터 사흘간 하와이를 방문해 10월 2일 로이드 오스틴 미 국방장관, 리처드 말스 호주 부총리 겸 국방장관과 만날 예정이라고 말했습니다.
Hamada said at a press conference on the 30th that he will visit Hawaii for three days from today and meet with U.S. Defense Secretary Lloyd Austin and Australian Deputy Prime Minister and Defense Minister Richard Malls on October 2.
그러면서 “인도태평양 지역의 평화와 안정을 위해 3국 간 협력을 강화하기 위한 구체적인 방안에 대해 논의하기를 희망한다”고 밝혔습니다
"We hope to discuss specific ways to strengthen cooperation between the three countries for peace and stability in the Indo-Pacific region," he said
세 나라 국방장관들의 이번 회담은 태평양 섬나라들에 대한 중국의 영향력이 커지고 있는 가운데 이뤄집니다.
The three defense ministers' meeting comes amid China's growing influence over the Pacific island nations.
장관들은 회담에서 중국의 군사적 압박으로 긴장이 고조되고 있는 타이완 사태와 최근 북한의 잇따른 탄도미사일에 대한 대응 방안도 협의할 예정입니다.
The ministers will also discuss how to respond to the recent series of ballistic missiles by North Korea, as well as the Taiwan crisis, which has been heightened by China's military pressure.
미국과 호주, 일본 국방장관들의 회담은 지난 6월 싱가포르에서 열린 ‘샹그릴라 대화’ 이후 약 4개월 만이며, 하마다 방위상 취임 이후 처음 열리는 것입니다.
The meeting between the U.S., Australia and Japan's defense ministers is about four months after the Shangri-La Dialogue in Singapore in June and the first since Hamada took office.
