나토 “한국과 협력 관계 강화할 것…사이버, 비확산 긴밀히 교류” > 정치

북대서양조약기구, 나토가 한국과의 협력 관계 심화에 대한 기대감을 나타냈습니다. 한국과 이미 사이버, 비확산 분야에서 오랫동안 긴밀히 교류해왔다는 점도 밝혔습니다. 조은정 기자가 보도합니다.
NATO, the North Atlantic Treaty Organization, has expressed expectations for deepening cooperation with South Korea. It also revealed that Korea has already been closely engaged in cyber and non-proliferation for a long time. Reporter Cho Eun-jung reports.

북대서양조약기구(NATO·나토)가 한국과의 관계 강화 의지를 확인했습니다.
NATO has confirmed its willingness to strengthen relations with South Korea.

[나토 당국자] “Leaders from our Asia-Pacific partners Australia, Japan, New Zealand, and the Republic of Korea have been invited to take part in the NATO Summit in Madrid, scheduled at the end of the month.”
[Nato official] "아시아 태평양 파트너인 호주, 일본, 뉴질랜드, 한국의 지도자들이 이달 말로 예정된 마드리드에서 열리는 NATO 정상회의에 참석하도록 초청되었습니다."

나토 당국자는 22일 한국과의 협력 관계에 대한 VOA의 논평 요청에 “이번 달 말 마드리드에서 열릴 예정인 나토 정상회의에 호주, 일본, 뉴질랜드, 한국 등 아시아태평양 파트너 국가들의 정상들을 초대했다”고 밝혔습니다.
In a request for VOA's comment on South Korea's cooperation, NATO officials said on the 22nd, "We have invited leaders from Australia, Japan, New Zealand and South Korea to attend the NATO summit in Madrid later this month.

나토 당국자는 “나토는 한국과 오랜 양자 협력 관계를 갖고 있다”며 “사이버 방위, 비확산, 기술 등의 분야에서 협력한 실적이 있다”고 말했습니다.
NATO officials said NATO has a long bilateral relationship with South Korea. "We have worked together in cyber defense, non-proliferation, and technology."

아울러 한국 등 나토의 핵심 아시아태평양 파트너들(AP4)과의 협력 심화를 언급했습니다.

NATO and its Asia-Pacific partners have already met for months and agreed to strengthen practical and political cooperation in various areas, including cyber, new technology, climate change, maritime security, and resilience, he said.

한편 네드 프라이스 미 국무부 대변인은 이날 토니 블링컨 국무장관이 나토 정상회의에 참여한다고 밝혔습니다.
U.S. State Department spokesman Ned Price said Secretary of State Tony Blinkan would attend the NATO summit.

[프라이스 대변인] “The Secretary will then travel to Madrid, Spain, for the June 29-30 NATO Summit. At the NATO Summit, Allied leaders will endorse a new Strategic Concept to guide NATO’s transformation over the next decade, from strengthening deterrence and defense to building resilience against transnational and hybrid threats, including cyber and climate, to deepening partnerships with like-minded partners in Europe and Asia in order to strengthen the rules-based international order.”

프라이스 대변인은 “나토 정상회의에서 동맹국 정상들은 나토의 다음 10년 간의 변화를 이끌 새 전략개념을 채택할 것”이라며 그 내용은 “사이버와 기후변화 등 초국가적이며 복합적인 위협에 대응해 회복력을 구축하는 억지력과 방위를 강화하는 방안, 규범에 입각한 국제 질서를 강화하기 위해 유럽과 아시아의 같은 생각을 가진 파트너들 간 협력을 심화하는 방안”을 담고 있다고 설명했습니다.
"At the NATO summit, the leaders of the allies will adopt a new strategic concept that will lead to change over the next decade. It will strengthen deterrence and defense against transnational and complex threats such as cyber and climate change, and strengthen cooperation between Europe and Asia.

앞서 백악관도 지난 8일 성명에서 조 바이든 대통령이 나토 정상회의에 참석하기 위해 28일 마드리드로 향할 것이라고 밝혔습니다.
The White House also said in a statement on the 8th that President Joe Biden will head to Madrid on the 28th to attend the NATO summit.
