미 고위관리 "베이징올림픽 '외교적 보이콧' 동맹국과 협의…각국 스스로 결정" > 정치

미국 정부는 2022년 베이징 동계올림픽에 대한 ‘외교적 보이콧’과 관련해 동맹국 등과 협의했다며 동맹국들이 스스로 결정을 내릴 것으로 예상한다고 밝혔습니다.
The U.S. government said it has consulted with allies regarding the "diplomatic boycott" of the 2022 Beijing Winter Olympics and expects allies to make their own decisions.

미국 정부 고위관리는 7일 ‘한국과 일본 등 역내 동맹국이 바이든 행정부의 ‘외교적 보이콧’ 결정에 동참하길 원하느냐’는 VOA의 서면 문의에 이같이 답했습니다.
A high-ranking U.S. government official responded to VOA's written inquiry on the 7th, "Do you want regional allies such as South Korea and Japan to participate in the Biden administration's decision to boycott.

이 고위 관리는 “우리는 동맹국, 파트너들과 논의했으며 우리의 결정을 그들에게 통보했다”고 밝혔습니다.
The senior official said, "We have discussed with allies and partners and informed them of our decision."

어어 동맹국들의 동참 여부와 관련해 “그들을 대신해 말할 수 없다”면서 “그러나 그들이 자신들의 일정에 따라 스스로 결정을 내릴 것으로 예상한다”고 말했습니다.
Regarding whether the allies will participate or not, he said, "I can't speak on their behalf," adding, "But I expect them to make their own decisions according to their schedules."

앞서 젠 사키 백악관 대변인은 6일 정례 브리핑에서 “바이든 행정부는 2022 동계 올림픽과 패럴림픽에 어떠한 외교 혹은 공식 대표단도 보내지 않을 것”이라면서 “신장 자치구의 계속되는 집단 학살과 반인도적 범죄, 다른 인권 침해”에 따른 결정이라고 밝혔습니다.
White House spokesman Gen. Saki said at a regular briefing on the 6th, "The Biden administration will not send any diplomatic or official delegation to the 2022 Winter Olympics and Paralympics," adding, "The decision is based on ongoing genocide, anti-human crimes, and other human rights violations in Xinjiang."

한편 한국 청와대 관리는 7일 ‘한국 정부도 미국의 이번 결정에 동참할 계획이 있느냐’는 VOA의 문의에 “다른 나라 정부의 외교적 결정에 대해 언급할 사항 없음”이라고 답했습니다.
Meanwhile, a South Korean Blue House official replied on the 7th, "There is nothing to mention about the diplomatic decisions of other countries," when asked by VOA if the South Korean government also plans to join the U.S. decision.

기시다 후미오 일본 총리는 이날 관련 질문을 받고 “올림픽이나 우리나라(일본)의 외교에서의 의의를 종합적으로 고려해 국익의 관점에서 독자적으로 판단하겠다”고 말했습니다.
Japanese Prime Minister Fumio Kishida was asked about this day and said, "We will make an independent judgment from the perspective of the national interest by comprehensively considering the significance of the Olympics and Korea (Japan)."

중국 외교부는 미국 정부의 결정에 대해 “보이콧은 올림픽 헌장에 명시하고 있는 스포츠의 정치적 중립성 원칙을 심각하게 훼손하고 있을 뿐 아니라, 더 단결해야 한다는 올림픽 정신에도 어긋난다”고 반발하며 단호한 대응 조치를 취할 것이라고 주장했습니다.
Regarding the U.S. government's decision, the Chinese Foreign Ministry protested and insisted that "the boycott not only seriously undermines the principle of political neutrality of sports specified in the Olympic Charter, but also violates the Olympic spirit of more unity."
