미 무역대표부 “한국측 IRA 우려 인정…양측 소통 계속” > 경제

캐서린 타이 미국 무역대표부 대표가 안덕근 한국 통상교섭본부장을 만나 미국 인플레이션감축법에 따른 한국측 우려를 인정한다고 말했습니다. 양측은 향후에도 계속 소통을 이어가기로 했습니다. 박승혁 기자가 보도합니다.
Catherine Thailand, the U.S. Trade Representative, met with South Korean Trade Minister Ahn Deok-geun and said she acknowledged South Korea's concerns under the U.S. Inflation Reduction Act. The two sides decided to continue communication in the future. Reporter Park Seung-hyuk reports.

미국 무역대표부(USTR)가 18일 성명을 통해 캐서린 타이 대표가 태국 방콕에서 안덕근 한국 통상교섭본부장과 양자 회담을 하고 미한 경제 현안을 논의했다고 밝혔습니다.
The U.S. Trade Representative (USTR) said in a statement on the 18th that CEO Catherine Thailand had a bilateral meeting with South Korean Trade Minister Ahn Deok-geun in Bangkok, Thailand, and discussed pending economic issues between the U.S. and South Korea.

USTR은 타이 대표가 미국의 2022 인플레이션감축법(IRA)에 관한 한국측 우려를 인정했다고 밝혔습니다.
Thailand's representative said he has acknowledged South Korea's concerns about the U.S. 2022 Inflation Reduction Act.

[미국 무역대표부 보도자료] “Ambassador Tai acknowledged Korea’s concerns with the Inflation Reduction Act of 2022 and they reviewed the technical-level discussions within the ongoing engagement channel as the Treasury Department continues to develop guidance and implement all aspects of the law. Ambassador Tai and Minister Ahn agreed to stay in touch on these and other issues in the weeks ahead.”

그러면서 미 재무부가 현재 해당 법의 모든 측면을 집행하고 지침을 마련하고 있는 가운데 타이 대표와 안 본부장은 현행 관여 창구 내에서 기술적 수준의 논의 내용을 검토했다고 전했습니다.
At the same time, while the U.S. Treasury Department is currently enforcing all aspects of the law and preparing guidelines, Thailand and Ahn said they reviewed technical discussions within the current window of involvement.

또 타이 대표와 안 본부장이 IRA 문제를 포함한 여러 문제와 관련해 향후 계속 소통하기로 했다고 덧붙였습니다.
In addition, Thailand's representative and Ahn's headquarters have decided to continue to communicate with each other on various issues, including the IRA issue.

지난 8월 바이든 대통령이 서명한 IRA에는 온실가스 배출을 감축하기 위해 전기차에 세액 공제 방식으로 보조금 7천500달러를 지급하는 내용이 포함됐습니다.
The IRA, signed by President Biden in August, included paying $7,500 in tax credits to electric vehicles to reduce greenhouse gas emissions.

하지만 보조금이 북미에서 최종 조립된 전기차에만 해당되기 때문에 한국 전기차 제조사들은 미국 내 공장이 완공되는 2025년까지 보조금 혜택을 받을 수 없습니다.
However, Korean electric vehicle manufacturers will not be able to receive subsidies until 2025, when factories in the U.S. are completed, because subsidies are only for electric vehicles that are finally assembled in North America.

이 때문에 윤석열 한국 대통령과 한국 외교 통상 관료들은 지속해서 미국에 한국 기업들의 우려를 전달해왔습니다.
Because of this, South Korean President Yoon Suk Yeol and his foreign affairs and trade officials have consistently conveyed the concerns of Korean companies to the United States.

USTR은 또 이날 타이 대표와 안 본부장이 인도태평양 경제프레임워크(IPEF) 체제하에서 양국 간 긴밀한 협력을 논의했다고 밝혔습니다.
In addition, Thailand's representative and Ahn's headquarters discussed close cooperation between the two countries under the Indo-Pacific Economic Framework (IPEF).

He said he agreed that the comprehensive framework of IPEF would greatly contribute to addressing current challenges and realizing new opportunities.

IPEF는 조 바이든 미국 대통령이 아시아태평양 지역에서 중국을 제외하고 구축한 14개국의 다자 경제 협의체로 지난 5월 출범했습니다.
was launched in May as a multilateral economic consultative body of 14 countries that U.S. President Joe Biden built in the Asia-Pacific region, excluding China.

타이 대표와 안 본부장은 방콕에서 열린 아시아태평양 경제협력체(APEC) 정상회의를 계기로 각각 태국을 방문했습니다.
Thailand's representative and Ahn visited Thailand on the occasion of the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) summit in Bangkok.

양측은 IRA가 통과된 이후 9월부터 매달 최소 1회 이상 직접 만나 해당 법이 한국 기업들에 미치는 영향에 대해 논의해왔습니다.
The two sides have met in person at least once a month since September to discuss the impact of the law on Korean companies.
