아프가니스탄, ‘영하 34도’ 10년 만의 혹한…이달 160명 이상 사망 > 세계

아프가니스탄에서 10여 년 만의 한파로 1월에만160여 명이 숨졌다고 아프가니스탄 정부가 어제(26일) 발표했습니다.
Afghanistan's first cold wave in more than a decade killed more than 160 people in January alone, the Afghan government said yesterday (26th).

샤풀라 라히미 아프가니스탄 재난관리부 대변인은 이날 “1월 10일부터 지금까지 162명이 추운 날씨 때문에 사망했다”고 밝혔습니다.
"Since January 10, 162 people have died because of the cold weather," said Shapula Rahimi, a spokesman for the Afghan Ministry of Disaster Management.

이 중 약 84명은 지난주에 사망했습니다.
About 84 of them died last week.

`로이터’ 통신은 기온이 영하 34도까지 떨어지는 등 15년 만에 가장 추운 겨울이 아프가니스탄을 강타했다고 보도했습니다.

통신은 아프가니스탄 수도 카불 서쪽의 눈 덮인 들판에서 어린이들이 나무나 석탄을 살 여유가 없는 가족을 돕기 위해 쓰레기 더미에서 땔감으로 쓸 플라스틱을 찾고 있다고 전했습니다.
In a snowy field west of Kabul, Afghanistan's capital, children are looking for firewood from piles of garbage to help families who cannot afford wood or coal, the news agency said.

한편 이번주 카불을 방문한 마틴 그리피스 유엔 인도주의 긴급구호 담당 사무부총장은 많은 아프가니스탄인들에게 가장 취약한 시점에 내려진 여성 구호활동가 금지령을 면제해줄 것을 (아프간 정부에) 요청했다고 말했습니다.
U.N. Deputy Secretary-General for Humanitarian Aid Martin Griffiths, who visited Kabul this week, said he had asked the Afghan government to exempt many Afghans from a ban on female aid workers at the most vulnerable time.

아프가니스탄 탈레반 정권은 지난달 24일 구호단체 등에 서한을 보내 여성의 국내외 비정부기구(NGO) 활동을 금지한다고 통보했습니다.
The Taliban regime in Afghanistan sent a letter to relief organizations on the 24th of last month to notify them that it would ban women from engaging in non-governmental organizations (NGOs) at home and abroad.
