A black man was shot dead by a police officer while fleeing a police traffic crackdown in Akron, Ohio.

The Akron Police Department plans to release a body cam video of the police on the 3rd after public opinion of excessive response by the police.

Akron police ordered Jayland Walker, a 25-year-old black man who violated traffic rules, to stop, but reportedly fired at least 60 shots at Walker, who was disobedient and fled. Mr. Walker died at the scene.

The lawyer for Mr. Walker, Bobby DiSello, told the Beacon Journal newspaper that the body cam footage worn by police at the time was cruel and that there were bullets embedded in Mr. Walker's body.

Mr. Walker's shooting has renewed the controversy over the police's excessive crackdown on black people.

In Minneapolis in 2020, George Floyd, a black man, was killed by a white police officer's suppression of the neck, sparking protests across the United States against excessive police crackdowns.
