Uvaldi's district police chief, who was criticized for his poor response during the shooting at an elementary school in Uvaldi, Texas, resigned from his position as a city councilor.
Uvaldi police chief Pete Aridondo told local media that he had "considered to resign as a councillor."
"I'm sorry to announce my resignation to the voters who voted for me, but I felt this was the best choice for Uvaldi," he said.
Aridondo, who was elected as a member of the Uvaldi City Council in early May, was sworn in behind closed doors on May 31, about a week after the shooting at Uvaldi Rob Elementary School.
Aridondo was previously placed on administrative leave by the Uvaldi Office of Education on the 22nd of last month, and the city council unanimously passed a resolution banning Aridondo from attending Congress on the 21st of last month.
Aridondo has been criticized for failing to prevent the tragedy by delaying police crackdown operations for more than an hour, failing to follow a response manual calling for immediate control of school shooters during the shooting at Uvaldi Rob Elementary School, which killed 21 students, including 19.
