Ten people were killed in an indiscriminate shooting in New York State.
At around 2:30 p.m. on the 14th, a gunman dressed in military uniform entered a supermarket in Buffalo, northern New York, and fired indiscriminately.
The suspect arrested at the scene has been identified as Peyton Gendron, an 18-year-old boy.
At the time of the crime, Gendron wore a helmet with a camera and broadcasted the crime scene live on the online streaming platform "Twitch."
Authorities have called the incident "racist-motivated violent extremism," citing that supermarkets are located in densely populated black residential areas and that 11 out of 13 casualties are black.
Buffalo City Police Chief Joseph Grammaglia said the gunman was heavily armed and equipped with strategic equipment and helmets. It also added that the crime was broadcast in real time through Helmet's camera.
Prosecutors plan to charge Gendron with first-degree murder, punishable by life in prison.
President Joe Biden issued a statement mourning the victims.
"Buffalo supermarket attacks are an act of domestic terrorism," he said. "There is no safe harbor for hatred. We must do everything we can to end the domestic terrorism fueled by hatred."
