캄보디아 전 야당 대표 ‘반역혐의’ 재판 재개 > 세계

캄보디아 정부가 신종 코로나바이러스 사태로 중단됐던 전 야당 대표에 대한 반역 혐의 재판을 재개했습니다.
The Cambodian government has resumed a trial on treason against the former opposition party leader, who had been suspended due to the novel coronavirus infection disease.

캄보디아 프놈펜 지방원은 19일 켐 소카 전 캄보디아구국당(CNRP) 대표에 대한 재판을 2년 만에 열었습니다.
Cambodia's Phnom Penh district council member held a trial on the 19th against former Cambodian National Party (CNRP) representative Kemsoka for the first time in two years.

켐 소카 전 대표는 법원을 향해 집을 나서면서 국가적 화해와 국가 발전을 위한 통합을 위해 재판부가 자신에 대한 기소를 중지시켜주길 바란다고 말했습니다.
Former CEO Kemsoka left the house toward the court and said he wanted the court to stop prosecuting him for national reconciliation and integration for national development.

앞서 캄보디아 당국은 지난 2017년 11월 제 1야당인 CNRP에 반역 혐의를 적용해 강제 해산시켰고, 대표였던 켐 소카 씨는 미국과 공모해 훈센 정권 전복을 시도한 혐의로 체포됐습니다.
Earlier in November 2017, Cambodian authorities forcibly disbanded the main opposition CNRP on charges of treason, and Kem Soka, the representative, was arrested on charges of conspiring with the United States to overthrow the Hunsen regime.

그러나 켐 소카 전 대표는 혐의를 부인해왔고, 미국 정부도 그에 대한 혐의는 “조작된 음모이론에 기초한 것”이라고 반박해왔습니다.
However, former CEO Kemsoka has denied the charges, and the U.S. government has refuted the charges, saying they are "based on fabricated conspiracy theories."

캄보디아 주재 미국대사관은 이날 켐 소카 전 대표와 다른 정적, 기자, 노동과 환경 단체들에 대한 “정치적 동기에 따른 재판”을 중단할 것을 촉구했습니다.
The U.S. Embassy in Cambodia urged former CEO Kemsoka to stop "trial based on political motives" against political, journalists, labor and environmental groups other than former CEO Kemsoka.

채드 로데마이어 미국대사관 대변인은 “민주주의를 진전시키고 인권을 존중하는 것은 캄보디아와 전 세계에 걸친 미국 외교정책의 핵심”이라고 강조했습니다.
Chad Rodemeyer, a spokesman for the U.S. Embassy, stressed that "progressing democracy and respecting human rights are the core of U.S. foreign policy across Cambodia and the world."

그러나 캄보디아 법무부는 관련 재판들이 정치적 동기에 따른 것이 아니라고 반박했습니다.
However, Cambodia's Ministry of Justice refuted that the trials were not based on political motives.

또 미국대사관에 그와 같은 주장을 뒷받침할 수 있는 증거 제출과 함께 내정에 간섭하지 말 것을 요구했습니다.
He also asked the U.S. Embassy not to interfere with internal affairs with the submission of evidence to support such claims.
