미국 국무부가 일주일 새 4차례나 이어진 북한의 미사일 도발을 거듭 규탄했습니다. 잇따른 탄도미사일 발사로 안정을 흔드는 북한의 무기 역량을 제한하겠다는 의지를 보였습니다. 백성원 기자가 보도합니다.

국무부는 짧은 기간에 집중적으로 이뤄진 북한의 미사일 도발 행태를 강하게 비판하면서, 핵과 미사일 프로그램 저지 활동을 외교 노력과 병행하겠다는 입장을 밝혔습니다.
The State Department strongly criticized North Korea's short-term intensive missile provocations and said it would combine its efforts to deter nuclear and missile programs with diplomatic efforts.

국무부 대변인은 1일 북한의 연이은 탄도미사일 발사에 대한 VOA의 논평 요청에 “오늘도 북한은 불안정을 초래하는 탄도미사일 실험을 계속했다”며 “미국은 앞서 이번 주에 발사된 5발의 탄도미사일과 함께 이번 발사를 규탄한다”고 밝혔습니다.
A State Department spokesman said in a VOA request for comment on North Korea's successive ballistic missile launches on the 1st, "North Korea has continued to test ballistic missiles that cause instability. The United States condemns the launch along with five previously launched ballistic missiles this week."

북한은 1일 단거리 탄도미사일 2발을 발사, 최근 일주일 사이 4번째 탄도미사일 발사를 감행했습니다.
North Korea launched two short-range ballistic missiles on the 1st and launched its fourth ballistic missile in the past week.

국무부 대변인은 “이같은 발사는 다수의 유엔 안보리 결의를 위반하고 북한 주변국과 국제사회에 위협을 가한다”고 비판했습니다.

그러면서도 “우리는 북한에 대한 외교적 접근에 여전히 전념하고 있으며 북한이 대화에 관여하길 촉구한다”는 바이든 행정부의 대북 원칙을 재확인했습니다.
At the same time, he reaffirmed the Biden administration's principle of "we remain committed to a diplomatic approach to North Korea and urge North Korea to engage in dialogue."

북한의 잇따른 탄도미사일 발사를 규탄하고 유엔 안보리 결의 위반으로 규정하는 데 그친 기존 논평에 북한의 위협적인 무기 개발을 저지하겠다는 적극적인 의지 표명을 추가한 점이 주목됩니다.
It is noteworthy that it added an active expression of willingness to deter North Korea from developing threatening weapons to existing comments that condemned North Korea's successive ballistic missile launches and defined them as violations of U.N. Security Council resolutions.

대변인은 또한 “한국과 일본에 대한 우리의 방위 공약은 굳건하다”고 강조했습니다.
The spokesman also stressed that "our defense commitments to South Korea and Japan are strong."
