China is threatening regional peace and stability under the pretext of a U.S. House Speaker's visit to Taiwan, the U.S. Assistant Secretary of State says. He also stressed that the United States is committed to "one China policy." Ham Ji-ha reports.

The PRC overreacted and its actions continue to be provocative, destabilizing and unprecedented.”
"China is in line with the U.S. "One China Policy," and is trying to change the status quo by using House Speaker Nancy Pelosi's visit as an excuse to launch a campaign of strong pressure on Taiwan, and jeopardize peace and stability in the Taiwan Strait and the wider region," Critton Brink said in a telephone briefing on the 17th.

In response, China raised tensions by launching missiles into Taiwan's waters, conducting massive military exercises in the form of a full siege of Taiwan.
