The U.S. Air Force's Geosphere Strike Command said it fired an intercontinental ballistic missile (ICBM) called "Minute Man 3," equipped with a test re-entry carrier, at 12:49 a.m. local time on the 16th.
미 공군 지구권타격사령부는 16일 현지 시각으로 이날 오전 12시 49분 캘리포니아 반덴버그 우주군 기지에서 시험용 재진입 운반체를 장착한 대륙간탄도미사일(ICBM) ‘미니트맨 3’을 발사했다고 밝혔습니다.

The re-entry carrier of the ICBM, which was test-launched on the same day, traveled about 6,760 kilometers to the Quazolan Atoll in the Marshall Islands in the Pacific Ocean, according to the Earth's Strike Command.
지구권타격사령부에 따르면 이날 시험발사된 ICBM의 재진입 운반체는 태평양에 위치한 마셜제도의 콰절런 환초까지 약 6천760 km를 이동했습니다.

The Global Strike Command said the test was conducted "to show the readiness of the U.S. nuclear power and to give confidence in the fatalities and effects of the U.S. nuclear deterrence."

"This test has been done more than 300 times before," he said. "This test is not the result of the events that are happening in the world right now."

"This test will verify the accuracy and reliability of the ICBM weapon system and provide valuable data to ensure continued safe and effective nuclear deterrence," he added.

ICBM "Minute Man 3," which has a range of 9,600 kilometers and 24,000 kilometers per hour, is one of the three strategic assets of the United States, along with nuclear submarines and B52 bombers equipped with submarine-launched ballistic missiles.

The U.S. nuclear power is the cornerstone of national security for the U.S. and its allies around the world, and the scheduled test shows the readiness of the U.S. ICBM fleet and the reliability of its weapons systems, said Chris Cruz, commander of the 576th Test.
