네드 프라이스 국무부 대변인은 18일 보도자료에서 이날 웬디 셔먼 국무부 부장관이 최종건 외교부 제1차관과 전화 협의를 갖고 “21세기 세계 도전들을 해결하기 위해 노력하는 상황 속에서 미한 동맹의 중요성도 재확인했다”고 밝혔습니다.
State Department spokesman Ned Price said in a press release on the 18th that Secretary of State Wendy Sherman held a telephone consultation with Foreign Minister Choi Jong-gun and reaffirmed the importance of the U.S.-Korea alliance amid efforts to solve world challenges in the 21st century.

그러면서 “셔먼 부장관은 여러 유엔 안보리 결의 위반인 북한의 최근 탄도미사일 발사를 규탄하고, 한반도의 완전한 비핵화 달성을 위한 지속적인 공동의 노력에 대해 논의했다”고 설명했습니다.
"Minister Sherman condemned North Korea's recent launch of ballistic missiles in violation of several UN Security Council resolutions and discussed continued joint efforts to achieve complete denuclearization of the Korean Peninsula," he explained.

프라이스 대변인에 따르면 이날 셔먼 부장관과 최 차관은 북한 문제 외에도 미얀마(버마) 군사정권의 자국민에 대한 잔혹한 폭력과 아웅산 수키 여사에 대한 부당한 체포, 유죄평결, 선고에 대해 심각한 우려를 표명했습니다.

He also repeatedly emphasized the U.S. support for Ukraine's sovereignty and territorial preservation, discussing Russia's efforts to prevent further military actions or other aggressive actions.

이날 두 관리의 협의는 미한일 북핵 수석대표들이 전화통화를 한 지 하루 만에 이뤄졌습니다.
The consultation between the two officials took place a day after the top representatives of the North Korean nuclear weapons program, South Korea, and Japan, made a phone call.

앞서 프라이스 대변인은 17일 성 김 국무부 대북특별대표가 후나코시 다케히로 일본 외무성 아시아 대양주국장, 노규덕 한국 외교부 한반도평화교섭본부장과 3자 전화 협의를 갖고 북한의 탄도미사일 발사에 우려를 표명했다고 밝힌 바 있습니다.
