미 국방부 “북한 미사일, 평가절하 안해…심각하게 받아들여” > 정치

미국은 북한의 거듭된 미사일 발사가 제기하는 위협 등을 평가절하하지 않는다고 국방부 대변인이 밝혔습니다. 또 북한의 관련 프로그램 향상에 대해 심각하게 받아들인다고 강조했습니다. 박형주 기자가 보도합니다.
The U.S. does not devalue the threats posed by North Korea's repeated missile launches, a defense spokesman said. He also stressed that he takes North Korea's improvement in related programs seriously. Reporter Park Hyung-joo reports.

미국 국방부는 최근 북한의 거듭된 미사일 발사에 대해 “매우 심각하게 여기고 있다”며 이런 발사가 제기하는 위협 등을 “평가절하하지 않는다”고 밝혔습니다.
The U.S. Department of Defense said it "takes it very serious" about North Korea's recent repeated missile launches and "does not devalue" the threats posed by such launches.

[녹취: 국방부 대변인] “Not at all. We have but treaty alliances with the Republic of Korea for actual tangible security commitments to the defense of South Korea. We take that very seriously so there's no devaluing at all, we're we're obviously and we have as an administration condemn these missile launches and call them out for what they are clearly violations of various UN Security Council resolutions and dangerous to the region, certainly dangerous to our allies and partners. And we're taking that very seriously. There's no devaluing of anything.”

존 커비 국방부 대변인은 18일 언론 브리핑에서 ‘미국이 북한의 미사일 시험발사를 평가절하하는 것 아니냐’는 질문에 대해, 한국은 미국이 “실질적 방어약속을 한 조약동맹”이라는 사실을 상기하며 이같이 말했습니다.
Defense spokesman John Kirby said in a media briefing on the 18th, recalling that South Korea is a "treaty alliance with substantial defense promises" when asked if the U.S. is devaluing North Korea's missile test launch.

커비 대변인은 또 바이든 행정부가 북한의 발사들을 규탄하고, 이런 발사가 “유엔 안보리의 여러 결의에 대한 위반이자 역내 동맹과 파트너에 위협”이라는 점을 지적했다고 밝혔습니다.
Kirby also said the Biden administration condemned North Korea's launches and pointed out that the launch was "a violation of the UN Security Council's various resolutions and a threat to regional alliances and partners."

그러면서 미국은 북한 미사일 발사를 “매우 심각하게 여기고 있으며, 평가절하하는 어떤 것도 없다”고 거듭 강조했습니다.
The U.S. repeatedly stressed that the North Korean missile launch is "very serious, and there is nothing devalued."

커비 국방부 대변인이 이어 ‘미국에 위협이 되지 않는다면 북한의 발사를 신경 쓰지 않느냐’는 질문에 대해 “그것은 사실이 아니다”고 반박했습니다.
Defense spokesman Kirby then refuted the question, "If it does not pose a threat to the United States, don't you care about North Korea's launch?" saying, "That's not true."

I mean, he talks about the destabilization to the region that the threat that it poses to allies and partners. Kirby, referring to a statement from the Indian-Pacific Command on the North Korean missile launch, explained that it made it clear that the North Korean missile launch caused "insecurity in the region" and "causes threats to allies and partners."

그러면서 해당 성명은 “이런 것들이(미사일 발사) 미 본토에 위협을 제기하고 있다면 그것을 알 권리가 있는 미국인들에게 분명히 하기 위한 것”이라고 설명했습니다.
The statement explained, "If these things pose a threat to the U.S. mainland (missile launch), it is to clarify to Americans who have the right to know."

아울러 성명은 “이런 프로그램이 한국은 물론 역내 다른 파트너들에게 계속 제기하는 위협이라는 점을 분명히 밝혔다”면서 “우리는 이 위협과 북한의 (미사일) 프로그램 향상을 매우 심각하게 받아들인다”고 거듭 강조했습니다.
In addition, the statement reiterated, "We have made it clear that this program is a threat that continues to pose not only to South Korea but also to other partners in the region. We take this threat and North Korea's (missile) program improvement very seriously."

미국 인도·태평양사령부는 16일 북한의 미사일 발사 직후 발표한 성명에서 “이번 발사가 미국 인력이나 영토, 동맹에 대한 즉각적인 위협은 아니라고 평가하지만, 미사일 발사는 북한의 불법 무기 프로그램으로 초래되는 불안정성을 잘 보여준다”고 지적했습니다.
The U.S. Indian-Pacific Command said in a statement shortly after North Korea's missile launch on the 16th, "We evaluate the launch as not an immediate threat to U.S. personnel, territory, or alliance, but the missile launch shows the instability caused by North Korea's illegal weapon program."

한편 커비 대변인은 북한이 최근 발사한 미사일 종류에 대해 “탄도미사일로 평가하고 있으며 여전히 조사하고 있다”면서 구체적인 언급은 하지 않았습니다.
Meanwhile, spokesman Kirby did not elaborate on the type of missile North Korea recently launched, saying, "We are evaluating it as a ballistic missile and are still investigating it."

북한 관영매체는 17일 “전술유도탄 검수사격시험”을 진행했다고 밝혔습니다. 한국 언론 등은 북한 매체가 공개한 사진을 바탕으로 이번 미사일이 ‘북한판 에이태킴스’인 ‘K-24’인 것으로 파악하고 있습니다.
North Korean state media announced on the 17th that they had conducted a "Tactical Guide Bullet Inspection Shooting Test." Based on photos released by North Korean media, South Korean media and others understand that the missile is "K-24," the "North Korean version of Atae Kims."
