미국 등 6개국, 안보리 긴급회의 요청…북한 탄도미사일 발사 대응 > 정치

북한의 최근 단거리 탄도미사일 발사에 대응한 유엔 안보리 긴급 회의가 오는 20일 열릴 예정입니다. 미국 등 6개 나라가 회의 소집을 요청한 건데, 단거리 탄도미사일에 대해서도 발 빠르게 대응하고 있습니다. 함지하 기자가 보도합니다.

미국을 비롯한 6개 나라가 북한의 탄도미사일 발사에 대응한 유엔 안보리 긴급 회의 소집을 요청했습니다.

유엔주재 미국 대표부 대변인실은 18일 VOA에 “알바니아와 프랑스, 아일랜드, 영국과 함께 미국은 북한과 관련해 20일(목요일) 오후 회의를 요청했다”고 밝혔습니다.
"The United States, along with Albania, France, Ireland and the United Kingdom, requested a meeting with North Korea on Thursday afternoon," the U.S. spokesman's office of the U.S. delegation to the VOA on the 18th.

이어 이번 회의 요청에 미국 등 6개국과 별도로 멕시코도 지지를 표명했다고 덧붙였습니다.

이에 따라 북한의 단거리 탄도미사일 발사 문제에 대한 유엔 안보리 차원의 논의가 또다시 예고됐습니다.

앞서 북한은 한반도 시간으로 17일 평양시 순안비행장 일대에서 동해상으로 단거리 탄도미사일 2발을 쐈습니다.

이런 가운데 최근 들어 유엔 안보리가 북한의 단거리 탄도미사일 발사에 적극 대응하는 모습이 주목받고 있습니다.
Amid this situation, the UN Security Council has recently been drawing attention to its active response to North Korea's launch of short-range ballistic missiles.

앞서 미국은 10일 영국, 프랑스 등 5개 나라와 함께 북한의 지난 5일 단거리 탄도미사일 발사에 대응해 회의를 개최한 바 있습니다.
Earlier on the 10th, the United States held a meeting with five countries, including the United Kingdom and France, in response to North Korea's launch of short-range ballistic missiles on the 5th.

이들 5개 나라는 이날 회의가 끝난 뒤 안보리 이사국이 아닌 일본과 함께 북한의 미사일 발사를 규탄하는 공동성명을 발표하기도 했습니다.
After the meeting, these five countries issued a joint statement denouncing North Korea's missile launch with Japan, not with the Security Council.

이와 함께 미국은 지난해 9월부터 최근까지 이뤄진 북한의 단거리 탄도미사일 발사를 이유로 중국과 러시아 등지에서 북한의 미사일 부품 조달에 관여한 북한 국적자 등을 유엔 안보리 제재 대상자로 추가해 줄 것을 요청한 상태입니다.
In addition, the U.S. has requested that North Korean nationals involved in North Korea's missile parts procurement in China and Russia be added to the U.N. Security Council sanctions, citing North Korea's launch of short-range ballistic missiles from September last year to the latest.

과거 미국 등은 사거리가 중거리 이상인 미사일이나 잠수함발사탄도미사일(SLBM), 핵실험 등 북한의 중대 도발에 대해서만 안보리 차원의 대응을 요구해 왔습니다. 탄도미사일 기술을 이용한 북한의 발사는 사거리 여부와 관계없이 유엔 안보리 결의 위반이지만, 이에 대응한 적극적인 움직임은 없었습니다.
In the past, the U.S. and others have demanded a response from the Security Council only to North Korea's serious provocations such as missiles with a range of more than medium-range, submarine-launched ballistic missiles (SLBMs), and nuclear tests. North Korea's launch using ballistic missile technology is a violation of U.N. Security Council resolutions regardless of the range, but there has been no active movement in response.

국무부 대변인실 관계자는 16일 북한의 미사일 도발에 대한 VOA의 논평 요청에 “미국은 북한의 탄도미사일 발사를 규탄한다”면서 “이번 발사는 유엔 안전보장이사회 결의에 위배되는 것으로 북한의 주변국들과 국제사회에 위협을 가한다”고 밝힌 바 있습니다.
An official from the State Department spokesman's office said on the 16th, "The U.S. condemns North Korea's launch of ballistic missiles," adding, "This launch violates U.N. Security Council resolutions and threatens North Korea's neighboring countries and the international community."

이 관계자는 “우리는 북한에 대한 외교적 접근에 전념하고 있으며 북한이 대화에 관여하기를 촉구한다”면서 “한국과 일본에 대한 우리의 방어 의지는 여전히 철통같다”고 강조했습니다.
We are committed to a diplomatic approach to North Korea and urge North Korea to engage in dialogue, the official said. "Our willingness to defend against South Korea and Japan is still strong."
