The U.S. Army Commander in Japan said the United Anti-Aircraft Missile Defense (IAMD) should be strengthened in response to threats from North Korea, China and Russia. Joel Bowell, commander of the U.S. Army in Japan, said on the 7th that the U.S. should strengthen its defense capabilities in response to threats from China, North Korea and Russia.

Commander Bowell said at the 2022 Prospect Meeting, an annual defense forum hosted by the U.S. defense media Defense One, "China is building war capabilities every day, North Korea is developing more programs for nuclear capabilities, and Russia intends to exclude the U.S. from the region."

Bowell stressed that these countries are looking at the same place while producing additional cruise missiles, which could exclude the U.S. from the northern part of the Indo-Pacific region or target U.S. or Japanese troops, and at least endanger the U.S. military with these capabilities.

Commander Bowell reiterated that the U.S. defense capabilities against these threats are not sufficient at the moment, and that he will strive to strengthen the integrated anti-aircraft missile defense (IAMD) capabilities as the commander of the U.S. military in Japan.

Commander Bowell detects ballistic missiles launched from the Asian continent in connection with the defense of integrated anti-aircraft missiles.It said it has a Patriot missile battery with various capabilities to track and intercept.

Bowell said that unlike in the past, the U.S. military's current focus is on North Korea and China, especially over the past decade, threatening the region with maritime, anti-aircraft, and intercontinental ballistic missile (ICBM) tests.

Meanwhile, U.S. Defense Secretary Lloyd Austin, who attended the forum, stressed that the international community will react very strongly to the recent Russian invasion of Ukraine, and that Russia should be concerned about its international reputation.

He was also concerned that China was moving very fast to modernize the military.
