미 국무부 "미한일 3자협력 지속...건설적 외교 준비 돼" > 정치

미 국무부는 한반도의 완전한 비핵화라는 궁극적인 목표를 진전시키기 위해 미국, 한국, 일본 3자 간 긴밀한 협력을 지속하고 있다고 밝혔습니다. 또 북한에 대해서는 건설적 외교에 관여할 준비가 돼 있다는 점을 알렸다고 밝혔습니다. 조은정 기자가 보도합니다.
The U.S. State Department said it is continuing close cooperation between the U.S., South Korea and Japan to advance its ultimate goal of complete denuclearization of the Korean Peninsula. It also said it has informed North Korea that it is ready to engage in constructive diplomacy. Reporter Cho Eun-jung reports.

State Department spokesman Ned Price stressed the importance of triangular cooperation between Korea and Japan in a telephone briefing on the 15th.

프라이스 대변인은 문재인 한국 대통령과 기시다 후미오 일본 총리 간 15일 전화통화와 내주 예정된 것으로 알려진 미한일 북 핵 수석대표 회동에 대한 질문에 이같이 밝혔습니다.
When asked about a phone call between South Korean President Moon Jae In and Japanese Prime Minister Fumio Kishida on the 15th and a meeting of the top nuclear representatives of North Korea, South Korea, and Japan, which is known to be scheduled for next week, spokesman Price made the remarks.

And that is the complete denuclearization of the Korean Peninsula. That is why we have put such a premium on our coordination, on our consultation with our Japanese allies and our allies from the Republic of Korea. You probably recall that the first physical trip that Secretary Blinken took upon his confirmation in his job was to Japan and the Republic of Korea. He was accompanied by the Secretary of Defense, where we met jointly with our foreign minister and counterparts and the minister of defense counterparts as well in a two plus two format in Japan and South Korea.”

"That's why we give so important value to coordination and consultation with our allies Japan and South Korea," he said, adding that South Korea and Japan were the first overseas tour countries with Secretary of State Tony Blinkon since taking office.

And we’ve had any number of opportunities to meet with our Republic of Korea and Japanese counterparts in a trilateral format. In fact, the Secretary did that just the other week on the sidelines of the UN General Assembly in New York. He had done that on other travels as well. Special Representative Sung Kim has done the same with his Japanese and South Korean counterparts. I don’t have any meetings to announce at this time but suffice to say that we continue to work closely on a bilateral basis as well as on a trilateral basis with our Japanese and South Korean counterparts to advance that ultimate policy objective.”

A spokesman for Price said the U.S. places great importance on the three-way relationship between the U.S. and South Korea, and Minister Blinkon and North Korea's special representative Sung Kim frequently meet with Japanese and South Korean officials.

A spokesman for Price said, "There is no schedule for a meeting to be announced at this point," but added, "We continue to work closely with Japan and South Korea at the bilateral and third-party levels to advance the ultimate goal of denuclearization of the Korean Peninsula."

미국이 북한에 어떤 구체적인 제안을 했느냐는 질문에 대해 프라이스 대변인은 “우리가 자세히 밝힐 수 있는 위치에 있지 않다”면서도 “우리가 메시지에서 명백히 밝힌 것은 건설적인 외교에 관여할 준비가 돼 있고 의지가 있다는 점”이라고 말했습니다.
When asked what specific proposals the U.S. has made to North Korea, spokesman Price said, "We are not in a position to reveal in detail," but added, "What we made clear in the message is that we are ready and willing to engage in constructive diplomacy."
