The U.S. State Department said the U.S. goal is still complete denuclearization of the Korean Peninsula, adding that it does not have hostile intentions against North Korea.

An official from the State Department spokesman's office said on the 12th, "We are ready to meet with North Korea and have serious and continuous diplomacy without preconditions," adding, "We hope North Korea will positively accept our proposal for meeting."

A State Department official said, "Our policy requires a well-coordinated and practical approach to pursuing serious and continuous diplomacy with North Korea," adding, "This is to make practical progress in promoting the security of the United States, our allies, and our troops stationed abroad."

North Korea's WMD and ballistic missile programs pose a risk to international peace, security, and global non-proliferation. "The United States is interested in curbing North Korea, preventing provocative or armed use, limiting its most dangerous weapons programs, and above all, keeping its allies safe."
