South Korea's new chief nuclear negotiator, Kim Kun, held his first meeting with U.S. special representative for North Korea on the 16th and discussed the situation of the new coronavirus in North Korea.

Director Kim was appointed on the 13th.

According to the South Korean Foreign Ministry, the two sides expressed concern about the recent serious COVID-19 situation in North Korea and decided to closely consult with the international community on ways to provide humanitarian aid to the North.

The U.S. side expressed support for South Korea's policy to help prevent COVID-19 in North Korea.

In the call ahead of the upcoming U.S.-South Korea summit on the 21st, the two sides shared their assessment of the possibility of further provocations by North Korea, and decided to continue to strengthen their tight cooperation while maintaining a strong U.S.-South Korea defense posture.
